I cannot express enough gratitude for the exceptional service provided by Assistant General Manager Jose Borrallo at South Branch Chicago. Recently, I encountered a significant hiccup with a reservation I had made for a large group from Chase Bank's happy hour event. Due to a mistake in location, our reservation wasn't showing up at the correct venue when we arrived. This could have been a disaster, but Jose Borrallo stepped in heroically.

Jose immediately took charge of the situation with utmost professionalism and efficiency. He communicated swiftly with our event planner, ensuring that despite the mix-up, our group of over 20 people was accommodated seamlessly. Under his expert guidance, we were quickly seated and served, and throughout the evening, his attention to detail and commitment to excellent service never wavered.

Our entire party was thoroughly impressed with the quality of food, drinks, and the speed of service, especially considering the size of our group which took over a significant portion of the establishment. Jose's calm demeanor and ability to problem-solve under pressure truly made our experience memorable and stress-free.

My dining experience at South Branch turned out to be a rather humdrum affair, further complicated by the somewhat contentious addition of a 3% surcharge aimed at compensating for employee wages.

The food was passable, but nothing to write home about. Each dish tasted decent enough, yet lacked the flair or unique touch that distinguishes a truly memorable meal. The atmosphere was likewise unremarkable, offering nothing to distinguish South Branch from any other typical eatery.

Unfortunately, the service did little to lift the experience from the realms of mediocrity. Our waiter seemed largely indifferent, with a lack of enthusiasm that was palpable. It was a disservice to the dining experience one hopes for when stepping out for a meal.

The addition of a 3% surcharge intended to provide fair wages for the staff felt like a poorly executed solution to a problem that should be handled at a management level. This move felt more like a burden placed on the customer than a conscientious effort to look after their staff.

Atmosphere is beautiful and especially in nice weather for indoor and outdoor seating. This is a huge fun place with booths and tables and bar w flatscreen TVs. You get dinner or lunch and alcohol. Our waitress was not attentive and a bit aggressive with asking about ordering a drink as soon as an extra person joined the table and they didn’t have more than 5 min to settle in from coming inside the restaurant to decide on a drink and then in 3 min she returned again to ask about ordering a drink which was annoying. The side salad was tiny and wilted and basically a few minuscule 1/4 inch pieces of tomato (up charge of $1.50 to sub for tater tots or mashed potatoes) , but the tater tots were very fresh and good, and the hamburger was good and the bun was fried and crispy, which was good. The prices are high, but it’s the atmosphere that you’re going for to have drinks and appetizers after work so it can be a fun time. The old-fashioned drink was good and sweet, but I wish there were one block of ice instead of little cubes. I also wish there was more in the cup because the cup is very small Compared to other places where they serve drinks.
