Stan's Donuts & Coffee in Chicago undoubtedly earns a solid four-star rating from me, primarily due to the consistently delectable quality of their donuts. Each visit has been a delightful journey for my taste buds, with their donuts boasting flavors that are nothing short of exceptional. From classic favorites to unique and innovative creations, Stan's has mastered the art of crafting irresistible donuts.
However, the one aspect that leaves me scratching my head is the consistently unfriendly demeanor of the employees. It's a perplexing contrast to the delightful experience that the donuts themselves offer. Whether it's a lack of smiles or a general sense of disinterest, the customer service aspect could use a significant improvement.
While I can't quite grasp why the employees seem less than enthusiastic, it's a testament to the sheer brilliance of the donuts that I continue to frequent Stan's. The quality of the product has managed to overshadow the less-than-ideal interactions with the staff. It's my hope that the management takes note of this aspect and works towards creating a more welcoming and customer-centric atmosphere.
In terms of the physical space, the ambiance at Stan's is charming. The cozy interior coupled with the tantalizing aroma of fresh donuts creates a pleasant environment for enjoying these sweet treats. The variety of options available ensures that there's something to satisfy every craving, making Stan's a go-to spot for indulging in delicious pastries.
In conclusion, Stan's Donuts & Coffee deserves high praise for its mouthwatering donuts, securing a solid four-star rating. The only drawback lies in the consistently unfriendly demeanor of the employees, a factor that keeps this review from reaching a perfect score. Despite this, the allure of Stan's irresistible donuts remains, making it a worthwhile destination for any donut...
Read moreFirst time at Stan’s and after reading all the reviews, was expecting to be blown away. We picked 6 to share and taste: blueberry Bismarck, PB filled chocolate glazed, lemon croissant donut, orange cream old fashioned, apple fritter and buttermilk old fashioned. The blueberry Bismarck was probably my favorite and least expected to like. The blueberry filling was fresh and subtle and so flavorful and the raised donut was light and not too sweet. Runner up was the lemon cronut—amazing lemon cream filling and another light airy donut. Neither donut was overly sweet which we appreciated. The apple fritter was also excellent: lots of crunchy bits and plenty of apple and cinnamon flavor. The PB filled donut was slightly disappointing—incredibly savory. The filling was straight up peanut butter and incredibly dense (we were hoping for a light creamy slightly sweet filling) and the chocolate glaze was bittersweet, along with the savory dough: we just didn’t crave another bite of this one. The buttermilk donut had the potential to be off the charts, but it seemed it needed another minute in the fryer to cook through. And unfortunately the orange old fashioned was inedible. The oil temp must have been too low and the donut cooked for far too long and soaked up oil. All we tasted and felt and saw was the oil. That was disappointing. Overall, we love loved half the donuts we tried, and the other half were OK. Definitely going to visit again though because we know they can execute some perfect donuts. Tried two coffees: a latte and a mocha and unfortunately the coffee was nowhere to be found in either. Latte tasted like steamed milk and the mocha tasted like a hot chocolate. However we weren’t expecting to be blown away by the coffee at a specialty donut shop so still giving the overall experience a 4. Looking forward to trying...
Read moreA cut above donut stop in downtown Chicago. Stan’s is a surprising gem, and there are multiple locations in the downtown. When you see a packed donut shop on a bone chilling Saturday morning in downtown Chicago, you know something is going on. We learned Stan’s has become somewhat of an institution, and once you visit, you’ll understand. This location was small but well appointed with service and tables in a perfect location near Millennium Park—hint, get some donuts, walk over to the park, and sit merrily munching as you people watch. There isn’t a lot of seating in the store, but there seemed enough for those who wanted to eat in. Despite the crowd when we visited, the staff was extremely efficient, friendly, and knowledgeable, so the line moved quickly—do not let a long line at Stan’s deter you. The donuts offering is extensive and unique, catering to many tastes. It was extremely helpful to watch to large video screen menu as we waited in line—by the time we got to the counter and could actually see the donuts, we already knew what we wanted. The donuts are perfectly cooked and fresh, with flavors that are surprisingly unique—some of the best donuts I’ve ever had. The take out bags are fanciful and interesting. Stan’s also offers a complete coffee bar and other drinks to buy out of a cooler. The prices were good; overall, I rate Stan’s as a high value for location, fantastic staff, high quality, uniqueness, and good price. Highly recommended stop on a downtown walking...
