Terrible. Customer Service? non-existent. The tall man w/ the 1970’s Mod Hair style refused to put down his mobile.. many inquired about unlabeled dishes weren’t answered. Talk to your wife- later- not a “Lunch-Time”. I “knew” that he wasn’t speaking to a Customer- because he was just muttering- “unh-huhh” - every minute & a half just to show he WAS listening.
Tongs &/or serving utensils are mandatory Dept of Health Service -“basics”. He failed to use them to fill our order of OVER-PRICED, terrible Dhaba Food. 😤🤯 His “”Frontier Chicken” was yellow w/Turneric, not Red w/Chili as it’s supposed to be made. Taste was bland. The temperature was NOT HOT- another Food Safety violation for food held in a chafing dish.
The “Goat” (1/2 order/styrofoam-soup bowl-serving for $13.00🤬🙄)my partner had was 2 pc. of meat- the rest was oily, greasy sauce with either dal or soya. Horrible.
I’ve been going to Dhabbas for 30+ years. Ever since post-9-11, when I was openly accused of being an FBI- “spy”-@ the original Baba’s Place on Hubbard beneath The CTA El) I’ve eaten Indian, Pakistani, Nepalese & plenty of other Sub-Continent food for decades and this fetid-place fell to a new low of terrible service, horrible food and the worst Chai- I’ve ever tasted. Paratha for $3.00 xtra? $36.00 for what?! Stay away from TABAQ- on Clyborn and...
Read moreSome of the best food comes from these 'hole in the wall 'joints such as with this spot where taxi cab drivers frequent. My cousin goes here several times a week and is obsessed with the biryani and I am a huge fan of the butter chicken and the minced meat, usually chicken beef or lamb. The people who run this place are very friendly, though you might have to remind them of exactly what you want but if you treat them nice, they hook you up with bigger portions or give you things for free to try it out such as when I was asking about their halvva, a colorful sweet, kind of bright orange in color. The place is clean, full of random taxi cab drivers or a group of them that met to eat and chat. Late at night you will find random people like me walk in because they know the secret about how cool this place is for feasting. I love the naan here, it is very close to the Peshawari naan which is the absolute best. This place is open all night so its a great late night spot and I alway seem to find parking rather close to the front entrance. Hearing all these different languages and watching the Urdu news stations is always interesting.
This place is highly recommended and they also make food for parties or...
Read moreTabaq Restaurant near downtown Chicago is hands-down one of the best spots for authentic South Asian cuisine. I recently dined there and was truly impressed with the quality and flavor of their food.
The fish was fresh, well-seasoned, and grilled to perfection—crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. It had just the right amount of spice without overpowering the natural flavor.
The mandi was absolutely delicious. The rice was fragrant and perfectly cooked, and the way it was served with tender meat (and sometimes fish!) made it a hearty, satisfying dish. It’s clear they know how to get the flavors just right.
But the highlight for me was the mutton khorma—rich, creamy, and full of deep, complex spice. The mutton was so tender it practically fell apart with a fork, and the gravy was perfect with naan or even just by itself.
Overall, amazing food, great service, and a cozy atmosphere. I’ll...
