Bett’s Big T Restaurant was an interesting place for a meal. We visited in May 2025. It’s easy to miss the entrance because it’s before the actual building and sign for the building. But not drastically so. We missed it and just took the second entrance past Big T. It is set up like an old truck stop and from what I understand, that is exactly what it is. I was told it was a very popular truck stop back in the days when the road was far less traveled along there. The building itself shows signs of its age and history, yet is still inviting to folks as a good place to stop and enjoy a good meal. There are some quirky things like a one stall unisex style bathroom in the back room. But that is only the toilet section. The sink and such is outside the restroom itself. Like I said, quirky. Then they have this row of three antique phone booths in the back room. There are no phones in the booths, but these three old wooded booths look to be in great shape. It gave the place a little more character. The front room has mostly tables and such. But the back room was mostly booth tables. We were seated in the back room. As such, we sat in a booth. The food itself seemed decent. My meal was good. But it’s also fair to say that it was not absolutely the best meal that I’ve ever had. But it was pretty good and by far was not the worst. But let me be clear, we did enjoy our meal. So my comment was by no means meant to be a shot, or derogatory in any way. The food was good. But to be fair, it is also not 5 star cuisine. Just a good meal without all the fanciness . We found the prices to also be reasonable. Obviously that depends on different peoples outlooks or opinions. But we found our meal to be reasonably priced for the meal we enjoyed. Our server did a great job and made us feel welcome. So all in all, I could see us stopping in to Bett’s Big T again. It’s not a fancy place. Nope it’s just an old truck stop with character, that happens to serve a good meal at a fair price. That works for me.

There are no words to begin how horrible and terrible this place is. Let me state the obvious, this is a small business who decided to open for Christmas and make money on those who didn't want to cook or clean for dinner. When you are small town, there aren't many options. However, that being said.......... Don't come here for customer service, good food or a pleasant dining experience. Nope! You won't find it. Between hearing who walked out on the job, inexperienced workers, food served like it came out of a lunch line (priced ~ $20 per person), constant complaints from the staff and other customers, items they ran out or just forgot to tell you after you waited, lack of AC temperature control.... the list goes on! If there was anything positive I could think of, I would have shared it. Eat at your own risk!

Bett’s Big T Restaurant is a beloved local institution in Chiefland, Florida, known for its hearty Southern comfort food and welcoming atmosphere. Established in the early 1950s as a truck stop along U.S. Highway 19, it has remained a community staple even as the area has evolved. Bett’s Big T offers a variety of classic American dishes for breakfast, brunch, and lunch. For breakfast, the Big T Breakfast Plate is a popular choice, featuring eggs, bacon, sausage, and a choice of grits or hashbrowns, served with freshly baked biscuits. Lunch and dinner options include BBQ ribs, chicken fried steak, and the Big T Burger. Sides like fried okra, mac and cheese, and collard greens complement the main dishes. Desserts such as homemade peach cobbler and chocolate lava cake provide a sweet ending to the meal.

Betts used to be my favorite place. I’m not sure what happened but when we walked in, two young waitresses were goofing at the counter…one was counting her tips…they told to sit wherever we wanted. There were 3 other parties being served and the rest of the restaurant was empty. Not one single table was cleaned. Half of them still had dishes and the other half had not been wiped down. We sat down and had to cal her over to wipe it for us. After that, we sat there and watched them chat and after about 5 minutes I walked up and got us some menus, she laughed and said “haha no you can’t have one of those!” She was joking but still….we sat for another 15 and I waved her over to please take our order. I had turkey and dressing (a special) Mac and cheese mashed potatoes and blackeye peas. The turkey there USED to be actually real turkey. This was a mound of deli sliced turkey that had been quickly warmed so that the middle of it was still cold. I’m not sure if it was the gravy or dressing that tasted like a half a bottle of salt had been used. The Mac and cheese was not that amazing gooey baked Mac and cheese anymore. It was a step down from boxed Kraft. We never saw a waitress again…well, we saw them…chatting together behind the counter and counting tips, but they never returned to the table…the check was left when the food was served. We sat in a dining room that was filled with dirty tables and nasty floor. We were actually shocked at how horrible that dinner was all around (my kids patty melt was good he said so there’s that). Come one Bett’s. Do better. You’ve been around for so long and been SO good to go downhill like this. You should have not worried about making the outside remodel so nice and just kept the focus on the food and service INSIDE. The blackeye peas were delish and my $4 tea was good at least. And we want our regular Betts...

Not a welcoming environment. Food was okay. My wife, two children, and I stood at the door for almost 5 minutes, yes the had a sign, “Wait to be seated”. A waitress walking by with no eye contact said, “Sit wherever you want”. We sat there for another 10 minutes for a waitress as she passed by us with only 2 people sat on the other side of the restaurant, mind you there are like 4 waitress standing at the counter laughing and goofing off. The same waitress that passed us, my wife counted over 16 times comes over and says, “What do you want”? Another 10 minutes we finally get our waters and she helps the other tables. I told her we were ready to order and she told us to wait a minute because she had other customers. We finally ordered after another 10 minutes. When we were about to get up to leave, she decides to say, “Oh, normally people don’t come in to NOT eat ha ha ha”. She dropped our food in front of us and left, came back and picks up my plate and slides the bill underneath it and says, “Why do you take care of this”. I walked up and the teen behind the counter asked, “How was everything”? I told her that I hadn’t even began to eat because their waitress told me to go ahead and pay it. She informed me that we should be able to eat before she did that. My country fried steak was cold in the middle, so I didn’t eat and my kids didn’t like their food (call it picky but the chicken seemed as if it fried over 5 times and hard as a rock. Least to say, I’m glad I didn’t tip and I guess the $40 tap water was decent. I supposed we should know our place and not pass the...
