One of the worst experiences I’ve had at a restaurant. It was recommended to us by our taxi driver and we saw that it had stellar reviews. And also has won best ethic food in St. Croix 3 years in a row. But NONE of that was shown through our experience.
We came in and we were the only people there in the late morning. He handed us menus and it was a little unclear if we were supposed to seat ourselves. We asked to be respectful and he said yes. Once we sat down, no drink orders were taken. And we came pretty much ready to order because we had seen the menu before. My boyfriend asked for the BBQ ribs which was supposed to be the Thursday Special. He said he didn’t have it. I asked for the Blue fish and he just said “no”... and we were like...”okay so what on this menu do you have today?” And he said “everything”...like..... no you don’t lol.
He also started reading stuff off the menu in spanish and I tried to follow along the menu to see if I could piece it together. And I swear nothing he said was what was on the menu we had in front of us. So we were just confused. Finally we were able to order something they had after a few tries.
Our food came in styrofoam to go boxes. I got the chicken stew and it all came separated which made it really difficult to eat and enjoy. We were also eating with flimsy plastic forks. Stew was fine. But honestly pretty bland.
My boyfriend got the king fish and it was the DRIEST fish we’ve ever tasted. No sauce. Just a couple thick pieces of fish with a big side of rice. Salad was just some iceberg lettuce with a slice of tomato on top served with some basic grocery store ranch..
We wanted to just get out and pay and when I gave him my card he said cash only. There were NO signs that said that and I wish he would have warned us. I almost had enough but had to run to the atm across the street to get some cash.
I left with a stomachache and in a bad mood. We were SO looking forward to this place and we were really bummed out that we spent our time and money there.
Also look at who is leaving the good reviews.... mainly ...

We had the Sunday Special Sancocho which was as flavorful as I've ever had; the Chuletas Fritas (fried pork chops); and the Curry Chicken. All came with a more than generous side of seasoned rice and plantains (a growing favorite for Trader Joe's shoppers). These were sweet though. Everything was made by pure love by the women who work there. Like your mom, grandmother or aunt was making a meal just for you. All were delicious. Seriously! Some of the best Caribbean food I've ever had. It was worth every dollar and may I add that the dollar goes pretty far here. Sure, there's room for something easy like the quick and recognizable environment at Shupe's. And of course, room to splurge at places like Too Chez or Ama. But I can't stress how satisfying for the heart and soul a visit to Zeny's will be. The food is straight up better plus helping people who are really from the island and have been for years that have fought against natural disasters and now a pandemic. Please show your support. You and your stomachs will not...
Read moreI know this restaurant is highly rated and reviewed, but saying my experience there was upsetting is an understatement. First off, it must be acknowledged that we got there at 10:30 AM. We sat ourselves down and having already looked at the menu online before arriving, we ordered. The first 3 things we asked for he just flat out said “no.” No explanations as to why, just denied us the food. The food that we eventually got, after being denied what we previously asked for, was horribly bland. The “seasoned rice” has absolutely no flavor to it. I’m not sure that it was seasoned at all. The side cup of beans was also flavorless and unappetizing. After this horrible let down of a meal, we go to pay for our meal so we can leave. He then states that he only accepts cash, no cards. Nowhere in the store did it say anything like this. We didn’t have the proper amount of cash on us, so my girlfriend had to go out to an ATM to retrieve enough cash to pay for the monstrosity of a meal we received. This experience put a huge damper on our days and it was upsetting to think that this place could possibly be the best local food in Christiansted. Thoroughly...
