We really wanted to enjoy Bombay. The atmosphere images on-line make it look so cozy and welcoming. The structure is cozy and ancient stone walls and arches. Really congers up ideas of relaxation and fun.
The bar is modest with a very limited offering. Not really any premium liquors. We didn't understand that as Bombay aims to be a 5star and has tourists coming by to spend. Seems an easy profit if there would be some stronger offerings. The bar keeper was very nice. Great conversation and kind.
The food was hit or miss. $19 for mussels is not unusually expensive, but they only served 6? What in the world? Mussels typically are not a high cost and we're used to getting 3x that amount at fine restaurants. The salad was a zero. Nothing but lettuce and a few minimal things. Dressing unexciting. Seafood linguine was delightful. The pasta was fresh and the creamy sauce was perfect. This was the only thing in our experience that we would rate 5 🌟. My wife had the Mixed Seafood Grill and gave it 3 stars. Flavor and ingredients 'just okay'. The mashed potatoes that accompanied her dish were exceptionally good. Clearly fresh made. Cheers for the mashed potatoes.
All deserts are purchased from outside the restaurant and uninspiring. Rum cake was disappointing. A bit dry. No ice cream available. Again....regular place...no problem. But trying to bill yourself as a 4 or 5 🌟 = problem.
The overarching vibe to the place was that the manager was clearly trying to push as many people through as possible. We arrived 20 minutes early intentionally so we could experience the bar. It took him about 5 minutes or so to start doing fly-bys "encouraging" us to take our table. The wait staff were friendly and prompt, but we constantly being rushed by the manager all within earshots of guests.
Bombay could (and should) be a perfect gem in STX. But it isn't. We cannot...

Had the stuffed crab appetizer which was yummy enough, but the real winner was the fettuccine special (chicken, shrimp and broccoli) which was fantastic! Bella was a very nice server with sincere suggestions and extremely prompt attention. Glad to see Bombay Club is still excellent, hope to be back soon.
ORIGINAL REVIEW: Ok, so get this... there were no tables available when I arrived at 7:30ish on a Sunday, so you'd think that with me not really being a drinker I'd be upset to have to eat at the bar. Well, at first it was awkward, but Whitney (the bartender) was super cool. She made me feel like more than just a customer. Made some great suggestions for my meal (I'm keeping it keto) and was a blast to listen to chatting it up with everybody at the bar. After a while I realized that the bar had as many people eating than drinking! I felt totally comfortable being there. In keeping with the Crucian culture the place was filled with folks of all colors and ages. All having a relaxed good time. But what about the food, you ask? This is a restaurant after all! Oh. My. Stars. That lobster was delectable! Keep in mind, it's spiny lobster from warm waters, a bit different than ones off of Maine. The meat has a particular sweetness and is denser. These guys will actually contribute to your satiety! I had a surf-n-turf (subbed sides for more salad) with a perfectly seared medium rare tenderloin. Over many years, with much expensive trial and error I've gotten pretty good at preparing steaks at home to my liking. This was really up there. I've been to St. Croix several times for work, yet this was my first visit to Bombay club. Will definitely make it a point to go again if I'm back over here. Oh, and this old world locale is an enthralling treat for the eyes every direction you...
Read moreWe ate here on our recent trip to St. Croix. It was the nicest dinner that we've had thus far. Although we did eat rather early, at 5:30, to try to save time to hit a few other places, the restaurant was pretty empty. Since COVID, there are less restaurants open for seating, and Bombay Club needs reservations. I know this because we couldn't make reservations the first time we tried. Nevertheless, if you eat dinner at a typical time (after working hours for us) then you should have some luck. The staff that was working was very pleasant, and the atmosphere was pretty cool. We ordered a few mixed drinks, and some wine. Unfortunately, the Saharan dust was over the islands and prevented lobster fishing. So, I wasn't able to order lobster for us. Nevertheless, we ordered the soup du jour which included some lobster and lump crab. It was very good. My wife ordered an appetizer than included a crab cake, conch fritters, and shrimp. It was pretty good as well. I ordered the peppercorn ribeye and my wife ordered the brisket for the main course. These were both specials and not on the regular menu. The flavor was decent for the ribeye, but was cooked well done, which was not how it was ordered. The staff was so very understanding and fixed the issue. Nevertheless, the flavor was still pretty decent. My wife's brisket had good flavor as well. It was not how we would describe brisket, but more to the texture and thickness of roast beef with some au jous on the side. No real briset crust like how we are used to. Still, it was a good flavor, and a good meal. We would certainly go back again if we were back on the island, and would recommend you give this a try as well. Plan to spend a little $ as this is a more upscale place than a lot of others you'll find on island, but worth the extra bit of cash for a nice dinner out with your...
