Hector's Mariscos — Restaurant in Chula Vista

First time trying this establishment but left so unhappy especially after how rudely we were treated by the manager himself. My husband and I went for lunch with our toddler. First gross event of the day was the limes put in the Table were obviously sitting out you could see they were not freshly cut and there was a piece of hair on them. I notified the waitress and asked for new ones and nothing else was said if it, I didn’t make a big deal about it. What really upset me was my husband ordered the smoked fish tacos and he disliked them so much he almost through up! I told him he could have one of my regular fish tacos bc I know he was so hungry and gave him that to eat and he liked it and I thought the regular fish tacos were really good...and I wanted two tacos...anyway we were waiting awhile for the waitress to come back to check on us and I am pregnant and I was still hungry after one taco so I decided to eat his other smoked taco he really disliked. It was ok to me, just didn’t really feel it was sort of bland but I was so hungry. Anyway still was waiting for waitress and another man came to check on us. My husband had his other fish taco sitting on his plate, he obviously didn’t want to eat and I wasn’t going to bc it wasn’t very good...he asked the man if you could please get a regular fish taco instead bc he can’t eat this taco it made his stomach sick and the man said he would ask waitress. The waitress finally came and my husband asked her same thing and she had to ask manager she said, finally manager came out and didn’t even greet us kindly and just asked what was the problem? My husband explained snd the manager said well you ordered that taco so that’s what you have, you can take it home and order another regular fish taco but we will not exchange it, bc you ordered that taco. Then he said we ordered the taco Special, bc it was grilled, then I had to chime in and let him know, no when we ordered it I asked the waitress if that taco comes grilled and she said yes and I said ok, so there was no special order! This place is just awful, not kind it understanding and seriously you can’t make my husband one fish taco?? When your taco made him sick? It’s only $2.95 in menu and I imagine only cost you half that..anyway, another note my stomach started hurting after eating the taco so that’s why my husband gagged after taking one bite! He is super sensitive to things and I should of trusted that but I was so hungry, well I don’t want to share nasty details but let’s say I was on the toilet awhile and it was awful! Food here is not sanitary! I am reporting them for this but warning you all here...

Unfortunately, this has to be done. I am a DoorDasher and DoorDash full-time. I know a lot of the restaurant employees in the area at all locations. I am very friendly with all of them and we all have good communication. I’m usually in and out of places with no problem, I have noticed several times that there is a huge lack in Customer Service at this location. I went in today to pick up an order. I was standing for a couple minutes so I asked to use the bathroom while I was waiting no problem I come back and I’m still standing there. Couple minutes go by and one girl said they never got the order. I’m thinking to myself. Why didn’t you tell me that when I got here, but nevertheless, I called DoorDash and let them know that they did not receive the order doorDash proceeds to call the restaurant And the lady says that the order is almost ready making me look like I have no idea what I’m talking about so the DoorDash representative comes back on the line and let me know. I don’t know what’s going on, but they’re saying it’s almost ready. I said I don’t know what they told you but they just told me they didn’t get the order the minute the girl at the front door. Who by the way, tried to tell me, she was the owner, which was a joke. Said you’re being very rude. You can leave. I’m going to make sure the DoorDash doesn’t send you here anymore. I could not believe the words that were coming out of her mouth. I was appalled and what was going on. I was so mad when I left I went to look at Google reviews wondering am I the problem or are they just completely rude and after I just read about 20 reviews saying exactly what I went through with the horrible customer service I would not recommend anyone comes to this establishment it’s sad because the food is good but the people who work there are horrible. My family has been eating at Hector’s for years at a different location Whoever is doing the hiring here needs to re-look at their situation. I am very hospitable to all employees because I work on both End of the coin I work in restaurants and I also DoorDash so I know how it is to be busy or not busy or have a lot going on. Yeah, I came in yesterday with my husband and our dog. I limped straight in from the adjacent Marque Urgent Care after being seen for an injury on my toe, straight to Hector's Mariscos hoping to get some of the great comida I had been eye balling on their virtual menu since sitting in the waiting room Lobby at Marques Urgent Care.

I loved the fact that they were dog friendly, they let us enter through the back patio and we were seated immediately. Our server was amazing, polite and super attentive..

However the food that we were served was ABSOLUTELY, the most awful...

I regret ordering the calamari appetizer. Mind you, which was sold at market price. ($25) We expected to get the most meaty, tender, freshest calamari that ever existed for that price! What a fool I was! Only to receive the most skinny over salted chewy thawed out rings instead...

Two shrimp burritos later, served with Chipotle dumped over the middle of them, we could barely eat them... I think the most we managed to eat was half and not because of their size. Everything was Luke warm like it had just come out of the microwave, yes, even the beans and rice.

The salsa was good though!

Anyways, $160 later... I'm not sure why anyone would even bother coming into this place.

At the price of a single cars registration, we expected way more!

Maybe we just got really unlucky as we had read all the stunning reviews before we made our decision to come! I don't know, but the food was really bad.
