First experience at islands was a tad underwhelming. My initial impression was very pleasant. The ambiance, decorum and staff were extremely inviting. As I was with my two children, I enjoyed the fact that there were several families. Our server was amazingly kind and attentive. We ordered the nachos with chicken. They were delicious and a very large portion. I ordered the Yaki tacos and my son ordered a longboarder burger. My tacos were drenched in teriyaki sauce. It was overpowering to the whole dish. I couldn't finish it although I tried. All the flavors were lost. All I tasted was syrupy teriyaki sauced chicken. I enjoyed the Mai Tai I ordered though. I really loved their crushed ice! though. For desert we split a chocolate lava cake. The brownie (not chocolate cake) tasted store bought, and dense there was a part that was rock hard. We figured it was frozen from the ice cream. The presentation of the desert was rather nice but the taste was basic. Overall, I would suggest ordering a burger because my son devoured his burger and kept saying how delicious it was. He is a picky eater with a great palate. My son rates this place 4 stars but I couldn't with the food I was given. My son ate here previously and was excited to return. I had the pleasure of trying the burgers at Islands Restaurant in Otay Mesa, and let me tell you—they do not disappoint. From the first bite, it was clear these burgers were made with care. The patties were juicy and full of flavor, perfectly grilled and topped with fresh, quality ingredients. The buns were soft but held together just right, and the toppings—crispy lettuce, ripe tomato, melted cheese, and that signature sauce—pulled everything together like magic.

I went with the classic burger this time, but the menu had some bold options I’m definitely coming back for. The fries were golden, crispy, and generously portioned—great for sharing (if you’re feeling generous). The vibe of the place was laid-back and clean, with friendly service that made the whole experience even better.

What an incredible waiter we had! I was taken to islands by my family because they know I love the burgers there. We were a party of 13 seated at two tables in close proximity . Our waiter (Christein) was exceptional !! At no time were we ever waiting or wanting for anything. This guy was super engaged and always paying attention to our needs. I truly appreciate the awesome service I received on my birthday from this remarkable young man. He has an incredible work ethic and I have no doubt that he will go far in life. I took the time to let his manager, Sandy know how well he performed his job. I can’t recommend him enough to customers looking to go to Islands.
