I'll start of by saying that we visited this place twice before the same owner changed the name from Dolce cafe to Rose d amour cafe. I will be posting 3 reviews to better explain our experience. First visit wasn't too pleasant as we were seated outside in front of the street we're it was very loud due to the high volume of traffic of 3rd Street. I took my family of 5 to try this place as i had heard good things from a coworker that visited the Otay mesa location (i believe is no longer open). To be honest that day i would rate it 3 out of 5 due to the poor uninvited atmosphere the place gives due to their seating environment. The inside is tiny and very limited seating, the wait times were over 30 minutes that morning and we were very hungry after church and wanted a quick breakfast. The waitress took some time to come get our order and also the communication with her wasn't all there. At times we waited more than 10 min to get our waitress to come to our table. They forgot my wife's french fries until she almost finished her plate. Seating outside was pretty cold that morning and our food got cold quick. The food was decent that morning, i had an omelette with veggies, w a fruit smoothie, food was good. I have to say all their beverages are OVERPRICED and all their sizes are pretty much the same (large and jumbo exactly the same) and they aren't larger than 12-14 ounces. Don't call them jumbo please, false advertising. Anyhow, second post it's when it starts getting better especially because of the owner. I couldn't do a second post but will continue on here.
On our second visit back in early October we waited over an hour to be seated inside as there was no way we would sit outside. The owner couldn't figure out how to make simple moves and connect 2 tables to sit our party of 5. We had another decent simple breakfast that 2nd visit. When it came time to pay the owner wouldn't take my 2 Groupons, stating i could only use one but nowhere on Groupon does it state that only one Groupon can be use per visit.
For the Grand finale, we tried taking out this past weekend and after putting in our order, "the same owner" as when it was dolce cafe tells me the restaurant is no longer dolce cafe as it's now Rose d amour cafe and would no longer accept my Groupon that it was still valid and unexpired. She stated it to take it up with Groupon. The Groupon was purchased in October and she just changed the name in the recent weeks yet would not take my Groupon for her SAME RESTAURANT. TOTAL FRAUD!!! NEVER STEPPING A FOOT IN THAT PLACE. There are much better places in Chula Vista that establishments would treat their customers...
ย ย ย Read moreMy daughter had raved about this place for weeks since itโs opening last year. I would say, within the past year, I must have eaten at Rose Dโ Amour Cafe with family members several times already. Honestly, the place had caught my curiosity since the days of Yeung Lew, a Chinese restaurant before Cafe Dโ Amour (same location and size).
On my first visit to Rose Dโ Amour, (with my adult children), I was immediately enamored by its cute, charming and interior decor. From the appearance of what the outside looked like, I had a hunch the inside would look equally nice. Well done! We were greeted and seated immediately next to the window area. On all occasions, my preference was to dine indoor verses the patio area.
Yes, service is on the slow but was worth the wait each time. Just donโt come starving ;) Servers need to be more attentive, be not so forgetful and basically communicate with their customers while waiting for their order. As for the cook, big shout out for his delicious, decorative and good-portioned dishes.
Favorites: chilaquiles, mole, omelettes, crepes, waffles, and drinks (matcha raspberry and ferrero rocher latte)
Non favorites: open til 2pm
Lastly, although not a coffee drinker, I hear Rose Dโ Amour serves them well with an assortment to choose from.
At least try their coffee if you donโt have the time...
ย ย ย Read moreI've been waiting to try this place for a few months. Finally went today, and what a disappointment. Small place, which I like very much. I'm a big fan of family or nonfranchize places. 4 people in the restaurant (two people at each table) and then me. One person walked in to get a cup of coffee, so not busy at all. Placed my order (1 coffee, 1 tea, 1 bagel w/cream cheese, and an egg sandwich). After placing my order, I asked to sit out in the patio (it was hot inside at 9am) and was told that it was reserved for a party of 20 (no big deal). After 45 minutes (and having to ask for water 4 times), my food never arrived. Well, to be honest, the plain bagel, coffee and tea did. But I guess 45 minutes for an egg sandwich was not enough time for them to make a sandwich. I asked twice when my food would be coming. It was then that they realized that I hadn't been served. Not what I expected for a small place that was not busy. Oh, and the party of 20 for the patio that I could not use? They never showed up in the hour I was inside burning up. They didn't forget to give me the bill at the end of their poor customer service though. I'm sorry to say it, but I won't be going back. Me hope is that this post helps the Cafe and staff get better. We need more small successful...
