I couldn't wait to eat an amazing dinner here as it's been years since I've been. My sister picked Montgomery inn the boathouse for us to celebrate her birthday. So 7 of us went on July 2 for our 6:30 reservation. I ordered the mango sunrise as it sounded refreshing on a hot summer day..it was not It was bitter. I put sugar in it and it helped so I got another one. It definitely doesn't come with much alcohol. Now to the filet..ugh it was horrible I ordered med well as I do everywhere I eat it was cold, tough and no flavor so I brought it home and ate it with ketchup and then it was okay enough to eat. It was disappointing for a over $40 steak to have to be smothered in ketchup to have any flavor and help you chew it. The sweet potato, well it could have been better it only comes with cinnamon butter that wasn't the greatest tasting bitter as that chain steakhouse that we all know, has much bigger and sweeter potatoes.... Came with onion straws those were the best thing I got. I was sooo disappointed. I mean I didn't expect my steak to be Jags quality, but definitely thought it would be a lot better than it was. The service was just ok, she was nice but maybe had a lot going on as she didn't fill my husbands sprite up all the way and then when I looked confused while passing it she mentioned it. I understand things happen so it wasn't that big of deal. She did forget the birthday girls salad though and was very apologetic. She was sweet and quiet and it wasn't a horrible service. The atmosphere was ok my mom made reservations and said she asked for a view and to sit by the window for the city view...a week in advance and was told no problem...it was not couldn't see much of the view. Although, since it wasn't dark we didn't complain. I just thought it was wrong to ask, and say no problem and then not get what you're told your getting. My husband had ribs and fries, we split a chocolate lava cake that was delicious and pie son is picky he just had fries and keylime pie and he didn't like either. So, after bill over $100 only the robs were good. So, if you eat here get the ribs. I guess I shouldn't order steak at a BBQ place. I won't make that mistake again. Ohh and they added a $25 too to the bill I think that's wrong. Tips are earned. That explains why the service is just "okay" they know they are getting their tip anyway and they still put a place for additional tip so make sure you look at the bill bc you'll end up tipping twice if you don't look. I was a server before and I worked for my tip. Anyway, our experience reminded me of why it has been so long since I've eaten there. I probably won't go back unless someone picks it for...
Read moreFamily of 3 with a Three-year old. We do not drink alcohol so all I can tell you is the back of the menu is full of options. This place is known for their ribs but we did not partake mainly because we had a Three-year old and we all know what happens when they get ribs.
KID: Our son actually ordered for himself for the first time today at this place, telling our nice waiter Ron he wanted a hot dog. The cheapest thing on the menu and he already had one for lunch at 5 Guys, Three-year olds. lol He ate all of his hotdog and he didn't wait for the picture either. We did the cutting of the hotdog to make it easier for him to eat and keep as much ketchup off his face as possible. He also loved his fruit cocktail. Pieces were rather large for him so mom cut them up a bit. He picked through it as he normally does.
WIFE: My wife had the Wedge salad and onion straws. She had already torn into her Wedge before I got the picture. She said it was a good portion, had enough toppings, her only negative was she would have preferred diced tomatoes over the grape tomatoes they provided.
DAD/MYSELF: I had the Pulled pork BBQ Sandwich. I ask for the cheese to be added. If you don't do cheese with your BBQ pork sandwich you should try it. I chose as my side the Mac & Cheese because that goes great with BBQ. My food was good. Loved my sandwich. The original BBQ offered was not overly BBQ more of a mild with a bit of sweet taste. Pork was really good. Mac & Cheese was presented to me with a crumble on top of it. Something I hadn't seen since I was a kid. It was good but I feel for an almost $5 side dish it should've had more of a bold flavor.
My negative was the plating. Seems to me it is very dated with unnecessary garnishment that doesn't add anything but green to the plate of a BBQ Pork sandwich. Seems this place maybe going in tradition and not updating their plating.
We got out there at $50 after tipping our waiter Ron handsomely. He did an amazing job and refilled my wife's water almost after every drink she took. I am not kidding. He knew the menu and was...
Read moreMy husband and I had dinner here yesterday for Easter. The restaurant itself has remained the same over the years, it is a staple of sports memorabilia. We were surprised when we walked in and were immediately seated as the parking lot was full and valet was actually parking cars by the railroad tracks. We were promptly greeted by our server, Katrina, asking for drink requests. The drinks were good and reasonably priced. It had been a while since we have been to the Montgomery Inn Boathouse location. I have noticed some changes in their menu which I believe are cost saving measures on the part of the owners. In the past all dinners came with a salad and bread basket as well as two side dishes. One of my favorite dishes in the past, the beef tornados, was no longer available and I was disappointed by that. Our server was helpful in explaining the size of the dishes that we ordered to help us order the right amount of food. We ended up starting with the shrimp cocktail appetizer which was good but pricey at almost $13 for only four shrimp. We then had a half order of Caesar salad that my husband and I split and it was plenty for us. I was also pleased that I could have my anchovies on the side since he doesn't like them. We decided to order a king slab and split it so that we wouldn't have any leftovers to take home. We were both very surprised at the difference in taste for their traditional barbecue sauce. It is definitely different from the sauce we used to enjoy and still purchase at the grocery store. The sauce on our ribs last night had definitely lost the tangy flavor and seemed more tomato based. The restaurant itself was a very loud with families and not conducive to an intimate dinner. We have been here many times in the past and with these new changes we may go elsewhere...
