I wish I could give this place zero stars.
We made a reservation for a window seat days in advance. After we arrive, we are told that there are no window seats available. Our reservation was for 9. We walked in at 9:01. It is clear that whoever was in charge of seating did not take the time to look at the reservation, or they simply neglected their duty.
The hostess gave us the choice of sitting at a four top in the middle of the lower dining area, between two large parties, or a comically large booth for a party of two (made to seat six or so). I did examine the people eating at the tables that we had wanted to sit at and found that none of them had been seated recently, so it was clear that our table hadn't been lost due to the one minute delay of our arrival. We chose the booth but couldn't hear each other at all sitting across, so we opted to slide around to a corner when we discovered a delightful butter smear across it. Maybe they were just trying to make it easier to play musical chairs at the table that our reservation wasn't for.
We order the shrimp & lobster spring rolls. I can't express to you how unappetizing these were. The menu doesn't prepare you for the limp, loosely rolled wad of cabbage with bits of meat sprinkled in, not very liberally might I add. These were a veritable disaster. I can't comprehend how it is possible to mess up shrimp and lobster together but Chart House knocked it out of the park. We did not finish this appetizer. We love shrimp and lobster but could not stomach it. Not much faith was instilled with the spring roll disaster, but we were still keeping our minds open even though we were at the wrong table and the appetizer was essentially inedible.
The coconut shrimp was probably the best this experience had to offer, as the coconut cream dipping sauce was delicious. I was surprised to find that $27 only bought seven shrimp perched precariously atop an unnecessarily large mound of rice noodles, with an accent of "small rice pyramid." The presentation of this dish was utterly embarrassing. It was massive and only made your shrimp look, well, shrimpy. And not in the appetizing way. In the "What is this giant mound of spanish moss doing to my meager amount of shrimp? Am I going to have to fight it for the shrimp?" kind of way. One of my many regrets about this meal was not saving some of those rice noodles to see if they would make good kindling for later. Alas.
The savory shrimp pasta was a scampi type dish. Noodles with shrimp and garlic butter. How can you go wrong? For $29, you get a bed of wide, floppy, impossible to wrangle (but easy to break into a hundred tiny fragments) noodles with a puddle of butter water. Oh, and six shrimp which were astoundingly underwhelming but edible. Most of the noodles and butter water were left on the plate.
The more I type about this experience, the more angry I become that money was spent on it. Of course I didn't want to raise a fuss at the time as we were running late for a show, but I deeply regret not taking action then, so I am taking it now by posting this as a warning to others. Do not go here unless you like it when food makes you very, very sad.
As I walked out of the restaurant, I could only assume that none of the people I was seeing had ever eaten here before. I figured that was the scam, and that we had been had. This place isn't aiming to have return customers; they're looking for that one time payout of almost $30 for SIX SHRIMP over your choice of garbage noodles. I literally think this is a scam. I can't comprehend any other explanation for it.
Less than halfway through the meal my date began apologizing profusely for the whole experience. See, he had picked the restaurant. He said he had seen good and bad reviews. He wanted to roll the dice. Let me tell you something honey, if you think you're going to be the lucky one that is happy with what $30 gets you at this place, YOU ARE WRONG.
We left feeling hungry, ripped off, and literally in awe of how terrible everything about the...
Read moreMy family decided to do something different for our Christmas dinner this year. What a disappointment. We made reservations for Christmas day 7pm. We were called to confirm the reservation. Upon arriving to the restaurant, we had trouble finding parking. Once we were inside to check in, we waited for about 11 minutes before someone came to the stand. That person seemed overwhelmed, as it was extra crowded in the waiting to be seated area. The person was very dry and quick to say "your name, then I was told we are behind with seating." So as we waited. I went to the restroom to check my hair. Another person was inside and discovered that there wasn't any soap to wash her hands. I offered her hand sanitizer. She accepted . I proceeded to the stand to report it.We waited 42 minutes to be seated. The drink order was taken right away. The time of the drink delivery was approximately 19 minutes later. We got bread w/out butter. We asked for butter . We got it 11 minutes later and it was not enough for one piece of bread. We watched how others were being served and their food. It was completely different and better. The waitress taking care of us who's name was Nina was very inattentive and slightly rude. She seemed to be favoring a booth that we could see across in an area away. We were finally able to place our orders , to find out that many items on the special menu they were out of. The dessert choices were down to only Key Lime pie or Chocolate Lava cake.My family ordered the Caesar Salads. It took 20 minutes for us to get them. They all were serious served with slightly browning lettuce spreaded over a triangle salad plate about 3 forks servings , no cheese or croutons for my plate. My family did get at least one crouton. At this point we are online searching for somewhere else to eat. It had gotten too late to go elsewhere. It was after 9pm we were served completely cold Sea Bass , Potatoes, Asparagus and charred cold steak. The other pairings with the Sea Bass was dry to the plates, clearly evidents of cold food. Our waitress didn't bring our food it was sitting in the window waiting.I could see it all from my seat. A different person brought the cold food to us. About 10 minutes later the waitress came to check on us after being missing forever. We told her our food was cold. She looked surprised. She said " I will have to get the manager" another 10 minutes. The GM came she offered to only reheat the food , but would not remake the food. We were concerned about how it would change the fish and steak. She said "she didn't think it would make a difference". " It would be hot she said". We were just ready to go. We had to ask for refills on our drinks. We asked for our desserts. This is really bad. The Key Lime Pie was apparently out. So instead of telling us. Someone in the kitchen window thought it was funny to use a fork to cut the last slice into 2 slivers and serve it. The Lava cake was okay for the person at our table. While taking a photo of the pie mess up. The table in my rear was being Lava Cakes and the waitress was apologizing for being out of Key Lime Pie. NEVER GO TO THIS PLACE FOR A 3 COURSE MEAL ON Christmas or any other special time or event in your life. It was my first time there. Also my very last. For great Sea Bass and Steaks I recommend any of Jeff Ruby's resturants. Embers and list goes on. I can't upload pictures here. I will share...
Read moreMy wife and I chose the Chart House for our wedding anniversary dinner because we had eaten there several years before and found the setting excellent, and the food good. We arrived around six, and were told by three young girls at the front desk (who were hardly engaged or welcoming), that a table would be ready soon, have a seat in The lounge. After sitting for a half an hour, we noticed that there might be outside seating on the balcony, and that there were multiple empty tables out there. Weasked if we could possibly get a seat there a little sooner? Unapologetically, they replied, “Oh, we don’t tell people about the outside dining because there’s not a lot of it there…” Seated outside, with a spectacular view of the Ohio River and Cincinnati, we soon got water, but no silverware or napkin for another 15 minutes. As appetizers, we ordered the lobster bisque and Thai coconut soup, both of which were good to very good. They cleared the empty soup bowls, and said they would be right back. After another 15 minutes, they finally took our order for Hemingway snapper, and stuffed flounder. I made the specific request to the waiter that, while this was a fish house, and they certainly would know how to cook fish, that I would make a specific request of the cook that if they erred, I would rather have the fish on the under done side rather than over done, and Apologetically said that I presumed they would never over cook fish. After 40 minutes we hailed our waiter and asked how it was going…? He said that a large party had come in, and had gotten their order in before ours, but it would not be long… Finally, at 8 o’clock, two hours after we had arrived, the snapper and stuffed flounder arrived. The waiter came back within five minutes, and asked how it was. I said “it looks fine“, (not having had a chance to taste it.) However… While the Parmesan crust and crab pieces on the top of the Hemingway snapper was delicious, the fish was seriously over cooked, dry and mealy. 20 minutes later, I waved the waiter back. I told him that the fish was way overdone, and ask them if he had given the cooks my specific request that it be on the underdone side. He insisted that he had given that message to the cook, apologized profusely, and said he would have the manager come by to speak with us. After another 15 minutes with no manager in sight, we asked another waiter to find our waiter to bring us the check. On our way out, I tracked down the manager and reported the problem. He claimed that he never heard of the problem at all, and dryly apologized. It will be a very long time before I ever go back to the Chart House. The venue is gorgeous, but the quality of the food has declined severely, especially for the...
