I’m being fair and reasonable and certainly generous by giving an overall 4 stars. Mainly I am impressed that management has acknowledged the many poor reviews and are moving towards correcting all deficiencies.
As Dino Dadino notes in his Yelp review the original owner passed away in a heartbreaking accident during the COVID epidemic but not related to COVID. His wife took over and did a yeoman’s job in trying to make a go. But as most eateries went done the tubes from COVID she sold to new owners.
We had several bad experiences but when we saw “Bella Rosa” in place of “Zio’s Tuscan Grille” we figured ownership changed hands again. But no, it’s part of a management and reorganization plan that merits praise.
We figured let’s stay and give it a try. The litmus test of an Italian restaurant is the Pescatore. So I got the white, the wife the red.
First, let’s start with the bread basket, or should I say plate. Two garlic knots and two pieces of Italian bread. My suggestion; go back to the original Zio’s offering. It was unique and delicious!
My wife ordered from the menu the Pescatore with Marinara sauce. She got Fra Diablo and it was too spicy.
I got the white wine lemon with garlic sauce and it still is missing something from the old days. No garlic was detected and still somewhat bland. Try to get that old recipe back!
We were both impressed with the presentation! The chef is to be commended for meticulous placement of the succulent mussels, ample little necks and tasty scallops and calamari. I got 2 shrimp and the wife 3.
We both requested linguine but got spaghetti. No big deal. It was fine.
Her soup was salty and not finished. My salad with balsamic vinaigrette was above average but I notice it is a victim of shrinkflation from days of old.
These seafood extravaganzas will set you back $33 and the bill came to $81 with no apps or deserts.
We’re not going to rush back but it’s so darn close to the homestead I may put it on the docket for the...
Read moreI have been a customer of Zios for years. Spending hundreds of $$$. I've always order and very much enjoyed the Mediterranean salad. This $15+ salad includes jumbo lump crab meat, huge shrimp, kala olives, tomatoes, etc with a simple yet light and flavorful lemon dressing. Kinda makes you enjoy doing the right thing by eating healthy. Well worth the price.
Today's order cost over $50. It included the one thing I was craving, that I treat myself to when ordering from Zios, the Mediterranean salad. Unfortunately, they changed the quality of crab meat which was this crumbly looking substance that resembled feta. It was the cheapest crab meat pieces I've ever had/seen. I called and admittedly they noticed the difference and were not happy either.
They changed suppliers, however, were adamant that it was lump crab meat. I know.. they know.... it was not lump crab 🤨. Despite the meat substance not nearly being the same quality, the price of the salad remains the same. I would NEVER have ordered this expensive salad had I known the crab meat was not lump. I actually avoid the non lump crab options in every circumstance when cooking myself or eating out.
The managers response to my concern was "they still have to offer their full menu". That's it.... no apology, no compensation or offer for something else. Pretty much deal with it.
Customer service and quality control are so important in the food service industry, especially when I spend my hard earned money. After all of these years supporting their establishment, I felt like the support was not reciprocated when it truly mattered to me. Sadly, I'll still miss that lovely salad dressing because this will likely be my last order. c'est...
Read moreTheir pizza sauce is phenomenal, authentic Italian food at it's best right here @ Zio's. Another favorite order here is the shrimp scampi. The sauce mixed with the oil & garlic and the seasoned sauteed shrimp. It just melts away in your mouth and all of a sudden that huge platter you were certain on only being able to eat half and bringing the left overs to work for your lunch tomorrow. I'm almost 100% sure you'll be surprised how hungry you really were. I love Italian food, my dad was 100% Italian and my grandfather owned The Merion Caters for over 45 years. So I know the meaning behind serving big platters. Italians love food PERIOD. No matter what type of food it is we all love to eat and try things. When your at an Italian restaurant and they give you this huge plate of food it's a sign of a few things. It shows confidence from the house, in other words they know your gonna eat more then you anticipated. A big plate of food also means come in, take your jacket off, get comfortable, stay a while. When I was growing up my grandmother (dad's mom) used to cater to all my needs I swear she would always say let me make you something to eat. You look like your starving, I'll make you some food, It's in their genes and in their blood to be that way. Anyway long story short. Zio's definitely brought back some great memories. All from the effort they put into their food. Trust me just go check em out you definitely won't be disappointed that's for sure. I...
