Though my name might not indicate it, I grew up eating doubles and roti and listening to soca, chutney and Chinese Laundry mixtapes. We moved up to this area and have been starving for some authentic, spicy Trini food. We drove about an hour to get here having read the reviews and hearing from others it was pure lava. Our expectations were greatly exceeded. The staff was so welcoming and engaging, there were many options for the spectrum of spice and variations.
As a vegetarian I went with the vegetarian roti and Aloo Potato pie. I let them have their way with the sauces and seasoning and it was one of the best meals in recent memory. The seasoned roti wrap was superior to any other I had since like 1997. We ordered extra to take home, and purchased bottle of the house hot sauce which is like a peppery gravy of pure flavor. Even the peanut punch hit different and was the best.
The fusion of Caribbean, Indian, African and Chinese make this one of the most exciting types of foods for the roaming gourmand and connoisseur of fine cuisine. An absolute treasure if you are in the area looking for a whole spectrum of different. perfected tastes and textures.
Absolutely satisfying down to the deep nourishing level of a home cooked meal from a loving mother. In fact, that is the situation in this beautiful family run restaurant with the son out front as the perfect host, and the whole experience was a credit to the culture and tradition of the island in every way. You can feel the pride, the striving for excellence in every aspect of this business. I can't wait to go back. The wife was as well pleased and satisfied as me,...
Read moreHands down this restaurant turned a mild experience SPICY. I came to Binghamton for a court appearance. I did not intend such a quick turn out. I was in and out in less than 20. I had book my bus late thinking, I might be there for a while. I went to change the time frame to an earlier departure. Yet all the busses sold out. I was stuck in this boring town. Went looking for something good to eat and nothing. I asked Google yet they did not show me this restaurant. I asked around for a good place to eat and everyone referred me to cheese and pasta. Two things I don't experience much of. Not my jam🤷🏾♀️bread bread bread everywhere 😒 I stumbled upon a restaurant on Washington Street. De Island Hut. Now as a West Indian Woman, my heart broke when they did not have curry goat. The place smelled so good though. The aroma coming from the kitchen was teasing my soul. So I ordered the curry chicken. It was not your traditional curry chicken. It was boneless, I had it with fried rice and plantains. With there signature hot sauce. For the general public that might be too spicy. However it was perfect for me. I went from being bored out my mind a city that sleeps alot🙄. To extremely excited for my trip to Binghamton. The cleanliness, The customer service, and The food was everything plus more. I came back for seconds and ordered a third for my ride back home. This place called De Island Hut deserves every star and...
Read moreY’all, let me tell you about this Caribbean spot I just hit up, and I don’t say this lightly, but it changed my life. I ordered the curry chicken and jerk wings, and dang, I think I saw heaven for a second. First of all, that curry chicken? Tender like it just signed a peace treaty with my taste buds. The flavors were so rich, I swear the spices whispered, “We got you, fam,” with every bite.
Now, the jerk wings? Y’ALL. These wings had me reevaluating my life choices. Perfectly spiced, crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside—it was like they were made in the kitchen of the gods. My mouth was dancing like it was at a Caribbean street party, and I ain't even mad about it.
The family running the place? Nicest folks you’ll ever meet. From the second we walked in, they welcomed us like we were long-lost cousins. They checked on us the whole time, making sure we were good, and you could just feel the love they have for what they do. They’re not just cooking; they’re feeding your soul, and you can tell it’s personal for them.
If you’re looking for bland, forgettable food, this ain’t the place. But if you want your soul blessed and your taste buds to sing a praise chorus, y’all better run, not walk, to this spot. Best food I’ve ever...
