Mr Halal Cohoes — Restaurant in City of Cohoes

We did the hard work so you don't have to. We visited THREE restaurants in the region in the same day, and ordered the chicken/lamb over rice combo at each. While Mr. Halal got second place, most of us agreed that the balance of comforting flavors, location, and price made it the place we were most likely to order from next. We also agree that it had the best bite -- while there was another restaurant that did better in the meat department, we agree that the overall rice plate experience was best here. Super delicious.

The stand-out strengths for Mr. Halal were the red and green sauces. Both of them were complex, fresh tasting, and interesting. If I could purchase the sauces on their own, I probably would, just to put on literally everything I can think of. The meats were very similar to other halal places (and we wondered whether the lamb was, in fact, identical to another restaurant we went to), but the seasoning seemed slightly better on the chicken than elsewhere. The Chicken/Lamb Over Rice is delicious here! It's fresh and the chicken is tender, the dish is well seasoned and the white sauce is flavorful (not watered down). I went back the next day for more! They are open super late til like 3 am! It's great for late night eats. They have a variety of drinks and desserts. I had the mandarin soda, banana pudding and sweet potato pie. Both were yummy and good quality. Also, you gotta try the Mango Lassi! I got that both times also. Its like a mango yogurt drink. That tastes fresh too and it's super creamy, and thick but drinkable through a straw. I can't wait to go back for more. It will be a place I frequent for sure. Its right on Remsen Street in Cohoes, the main part of town where all the shops and restaurants are. If you are stopping through Cohoes or live there and need a bite to eat, it's definitely one of the places I'd suggest.
