Prior to visiting WIK, I'd never had Nepalese cuisine before, so this place has been high on my list since I first learned of their soft opening.
My companion and I dropped by for a weekday dinner and street parking was a breeze. Upon entering, there was one other party dining in and they seemed to be enjoying their food and gave high praise as they exited. For a starter, we ordered two Choila Rotis (BOGO during happy hour), sweet and spicy wings, and mango lassis, which weren't on the menu. The Rotis were good and had a light charred taste. The sweet and spicy wings were delicious. The flavor was so good that I asked for a small container to take home the rest of the sauce that remained on the plate. Finger... licking... good. The mango lassi was okay. The thickness of the drink was on point, but it could've had a bit more flavor. I've had better.
For an entree, my companion and I split an order of Shrimp Momo Jhol. The presentation of the appetizers and entrees was great. The shrimp momo was served in a cool curry, while the actual momos were hot. The flavor was similar to a soup dumpling and the mixture of flavors, heat, and texture was quite enjoyable.
Some items are priced higher than average, but for the flavor and quality, I feel that it's a reasonable price to pay for something that's not your typical Long Island fare. I...
Read moreDO NOT let the front of the store (painted sign) discourage you from having a stellar meal at this wonderful establishment. It was my first time having Napali food ever. I stopped here while traveling for work. The bartender and server, Paras, was super friendly and I had lots of questions about Napal, and he answered them all with a smile. This was not my intended dining destination for the day, but I'm so glad I stopped here for dinner. I had the Katmandu Poppers, which were awesome, I then had Chicken Momo dumplings (also awesome), with chili paste on the side (definitely a beautifully balanced creamy hot sauce), and even though he recommended a low mein dish as my main, I don't eat pasta very often, almost never, so I went with chicken skewers. They were also delicious! I don't have Nepali restaurants anywhere near me, so I will be sure to stop back in here again when visiting the area for work everytime I come to the Glen Grove area. There was even some Nepali music playing that had me wanting to dance in my chair, haha! And I dont dance. Definitely a great little hole in the wall that you MUST try! If you are a local to Glen Grove, I am jealous you have this amazing...
Read moreHad a great dinner with my colleagues at While in Kathmandu in Glen Cove tonight. This place is a gem - it's the only Nepalese restaurant on Long Island.
We ordered way too much food, but everything was so delicious we couldn't stop eating. The Chicken Jhol Momo, Garlic Naan with Hummus, and Shrimp Momo were all amazing. The Cheese Naan, baked in a clay oven and served with homemade mint sauce, was incredible.
The Masala Fries were spicy, but not overwhelmingly so - just a nice kick. And the Masala Chai? Creamy and comforting on a cold day, just what I needed.
But the real standout was the Thukpa, a traditional Nepali noodle soup. It was like a Nepalese version of ramen, and I'm convinced it could cure a cold. Even if it can't, it's definitely a bowl of comfort that's worth coming back for. I'm a huge soup fan and this was great.
I've had their food before, but this was my first time coming in for a sit-down dinner. The service was top-notch, and the owners were super friendly. I'm so glad we tried this place - it's definitely...
