Update: Summer 2013 - Should have known it was too good to be true. Food started going seriously downhill at the beginning of this Summer. The service did, too. Then, we start hearing about crazy behavior, bizarre and unfair business practices on the part of the owner. Had heard this sort of thing before, but like a lot of things you hear, we just wrote it off as he said/she said hearsay... Things seemed to be looking pretty good last year. Now, we're getting first hand accounts of bad ju-ju from downtown merchants, some of whom have recently been on the receiving end of this insane behavior and these bizarre choices. We're talking "cut off your own nose to spite your face" kind of decision making, here. And it's left some really good people in a really bad way. Not good, Mr Davidson. Your restaurant simply can't continue to survive these yo-yo like shifts in quality of food and service. Plus, this is the kind of small town where neighbors care about and stand up for each other. Eventually, people will just stop coming....
Summer 2012 - I have to start by saying that I walked into this place NOT wanting to like it. Sounds strange, I know... BUT, we've had several bad experiences at Davidson Bros. over the years. The only reason we decided to give it another try recently, was because there wasn't anyplace else in town that was open at 8PM this past Memorial Day and we were starving. Not only was it great that night, but we've been back 4 or 5 times since and have had delicious food and much to our surprise, excellent service. I think one of the reasons that it's improved so much, is that we haven't had to deal with or see RD (co-owner) at all. As other reviews have stated, he is not a pleasant person and his erratic and rude behavior has turned many locals away in the past. The live entertainment has been excellent, too. As for the beer... Other half is a bit of a beer snob and has been very pleased with a few of the newer offerings. (Swimming Cow, I-87 and Belgian White, specifically) Keep the current chef & wait staff and keep RD away from the patrons as much as possible and we'll keep coming back. (and...
Read moreI hosted a party here years ago. I filled out a contract and paid in full for the entire upstairs room. 5 minutes before my party started he continued to sit patrons upstairs and claimed it was before 7 and it's not his fault I was hosting a party during prime time in downtown glens falls. Earlier that week his hostess had called to ask me if I wanted just half the room, I said no i had already paid and would like to keep the full room. When I asked if I could have a dj he said I would have to pay 5-600 dollars to cancel his music. I said no problem as long as there was music I didn't need a dj. Low and behold there was no band. Our food was not replenished, the plates and silverware were not replenished, and my guests were being charged a dollar more at the bar upstairs where our party was. When I confronted the owner he said I was lucky to be able to have a party there, and had he known what was in the contract I should've had to pay more because they were losing money. (Not my fault!! He should've reviewed the contract!) I was so upset with the way he was talking to me I started to cry. My brother came and calmly told him he was taking advantage, Ricks response was he was going to kick him out. He was honestly the most vile person to do business with! We filed a complaint with BBB and have not been back since! After everything that is coming out now I am relieved everyone else is realizing that he treats his staff and customers equally bad! Do not give this man...
Read moreBeer was okay. Food was extremely subpar and overpriced. The beef brisket sandwich was inedible - the brisket slices had large chunks of fat attached, yet was somehow bone dry at the same time. It was flavorless, and hard to chew since it was sliced with the grain. After I sent back that abomination of a beef brisket sandwich, I ordered a burger, done medium well.
What I received was an unseasoned burger cooked extremely well. I sent that back too and decided to just leave. Interestingly enough, my boyfriend ordered a burger and was never asked what temp he wanted it cooked to, so it was served to him well done. The server should know better, but I guess the "talent" in the kitchen only knows how to cook burgers well done.
Brenda, the manager, stopped by our table to apologize, and I told her how the brisket was untrimmed and not sliced in the correct way (against the grain). She immediately got offended and as she walked away said, "I'm sure the chef knows what he's doing." He obviously does not, otherwise he would be able to do something as basic as remove fat from and how to slice brisket, or cook a burger.
We will never come back, and I would encourage you to do the same. It was a terrible experience, and I was livid after receiving such an attitude from the manager of all people, especially after such an awful meal. Would rate this place 0...
