You know a restaurant is special when you wake up that next morning dreaming about the dining experience you had the night before. Starting with the food, RMR excels at single ingredient high quality dishes with exceptional new flavors and textures through the use of cooking methods, seasonings, and garnishes. The chicory salad is crisp, sweet, and smoky all at different times. The braised stuffed leeks were full of smooth buttery richness reminiscent of what the finest French potato leek soup wishes it was. The beet salad with pumpkin seeds and a light touch of what seemed to be a creamed goat cheese is another display of mastery in balancing excellence, comfort, and genius in combinations. We ended it with a dry aged sirloin where the smoke and mold of the heavy age was complimented by what seemed like a sweet rich veal jus with peppers- the combination of which was the most perfect compliment. The steak was cooked right up to the crust perfectly rare and exactly uniform in a way that truly did justice to the quality of meat.
The cocktails at RMR are exactly as excellent as the food. Again, clever and novel takes on what may be old classics without the need to be complicated for the sake of it. The mezcal offerings are some of the finest I have enjoyed, and the smoky maple bourbon mixology was the perfect blend of an old fashioned without all the sugar and over powering sweetness.
To cap the evening is one of the finest designs and service staffs one could ask for. One is immediately greeted by multiple smiling attentive service members surrounded by dark woods, stainless steel, great music, and beautiful people all enjoying their evening. From the gold rimmed dishes to the crystal toppers on the butter to the weighted silverware, no detail is left unnoticed at RMR. Even the bathrooms smelled great from exquisite sandalwood candles.
I am grateful for such a wonderful evening and look forward to returning next time I am...
Read moreThe atmosphere is lovely, spare but elegant decor and a large beeswax candle on each table. The staff is equally lovely and numerous. My issue is with the menu. It’s hard to understand what the dish actually is and the size of the portion. Instead of appetizers and mains, menu is divided into smaller and larger plates. But how small is small or large is large? I ordered carnaroli rice with a list of ingredients following. It turned out to be a risotto with mushrooms. Why not just say ‘mushroom risotto’? There was no trace of a mussel or squid listed in the ingredients. I did see a spec of nduja drift by. Overall the dish wasn’t unpleasant but also wasn’t very flavorful. My husband ordered the tuna which oddly came in three strips. He referred to them as tuna dogs. He said the ‘dogs’ didn’t have much flavor either. I ordered a dessert that said it had a crispy fritter which caught my eye as I love a good fritter, but no fritter, just fried chips with bits of pear and some marscapone sandwiched between them. Again, not bad, but not...
Read moreHad the pleasure of dining at RMR this past weekend. I can't say enough about the food, staff and atmosphere at this warm and inviting restaurant; a culinary destination and a must (and regular) stop when in or near Hudson.
A delicious chicory salad, a sampling of their special hams, perfectly seared pork chops with a fennel/mint side, and exquisite dessert(s) speak volumes about the skill, dedication and sophistication of the entire kitchen team.
And, there's a thoughtful wine and spirits list, reasonably priced, with unique selections that stand alone and/or pair well with the menus.
The restaurant is smartly divided for bar room, main, private and terrace dining, the lighting and vibe throughout perfect, and a fitting backdrop for the professional, friendly and knowledgeable wait staff.
The owners should be proud of what they've created, and how they brought their farm and vision to your table in the...
