My husband and I decided to eat here last night 10/30/22. The food was good but it was slightly under cooked (pasta & pizza) the annoying part of the night though was actually the hostess. She was extremely rude for no reason. We didn’t have a reservation which we politely said she told us to wait. After a full 5 minutes she comes from the back and starts asking food runners if they need help running food to the other tables, takes a few minutes. She then proceeded to answer the phone and was typing on the register in front of us for another few minutes. We’ve been waiting for at least 10 minutes now, kind of annoying but I work in the food industry so I try to be understanding. Now hear is the rude part, After she hung up the phone she walked away and DID NOT come back but stayed in our view the whole time. Another 5 minutes. By this time there was already other party’s who had walked in behind us and asked us how long the wait was since they didn’t have a reservation too. Then a nice young man came up to us to see if we had been helped. He asked the original hostess if she had found a table and we could hear her reply with we only have one table right now and she can’t sit anyone else. He comes back to my husband and I and takes us to our table and seconds after we sit down the same original hostess walks back with the people who didn’t have a reservation and walked in after us. Not sure why this hostess was acting this way since we barely said a sentence to her but as someone in the same industry I just want to make it clear she set the mood for the rest of the dinner and it wasn’t a great one. Hostess was wearing all black and shirt had diamond jewels on them, she was kind of tall and brunette with a sleeked back bun probably in her 30’s (had a lot of time to just...
Read moreMy husband and I had the opportunity to enjoy a memorable meal at Savanos in Red Hook a year ago. So in planning an overnight getaway to Hudson, we were excited about having a second meal at Savona’s in Hudson.
Service and atmosphere were exceptional, great attentive, professional hostess and stellar server.
We we were off to a great start with a delicious fried artichoke Caesar salad (which needed a bit of lemon juice) and addictive warm, soft breadsticks covered in garlic, parsley and olive oil. However my entree, Eggplant Rollatini, was disappointing and inedible. I have had this eggplant dish often and am familiar with the usual recipes and enjoy a chefs particular interpretations. Yet, this was not a slight modification, it was simply poor execution of eggplant breaded and fried for Parmesana and then repurposed the bread, fried eggplant slices layered with a bland ricotta spread and then baked with mozzarella and topped with sauce. The eggplant was burned and I could not taste the eggplant as the coating overtook the dish. My expectation is eggplant rollatini is not breaded but grilled or fried, rolled with a garlic and herb stuffed with ricotta filling and baked with mozzarella and spicy tomato sauce.
I did talk to our server about this and she checked with the chef who said this is their normal recipe (breaded eggplant). We were offered a replacement which is a great example of their excellent customer service. My husband and I will return as often as we can however I will ask more question about the preparation before I make my selection. And possibly return to the Red Hook restaurant since that is where we had such an exceptional meal...
Read moreThe place is... nice. I had read the reviews before going, which were split right down the middle. The experience of eating there was described as either amazing or the exact opposite with nothing in the middle. "Terrible service" was the biggest complaint in the reviews I read. It was my birthday, and since everything else was pretty much closed on Warren Street, the day after Christmas, I had hoped for good food and would've settled for " decent " service. I was hungry! Well, we had to summons the server twice in the 20 minutes we were there, and that was BEFORE ordering. She seemed more content with hanging out and chatting in the back with other employees in spite of the very packed house. She was not courteous or service oriented at all, but worse, she couldn't have cared less!! We waited forever just for the bottled water we finally ordered and when she finally brought it, she plopped it down on the table rudely and walked away... Never thought to ask if we were ready to order even though she knew we'd been there a while. We watched her serve a table of 6 who came in after us, then more chatting... we had to request her again. When she finally came, she wasn't in the least apologetic for making us wait AND was surprised when we told her we were ready to order. When she was announced that she was out of what we wanted to eat, we were done and left! This restaurant is giving Soho in New York City vibes with service not even suitable for a fast food joint. So beyond...
