Really very good. Hole in the Wall offers unique donut combination with various different kinds of bases which sets them a apart from other specialty donut places in the Hudson Valley. Prices are in line with what you'd expect from a similar establishment, the donut shop interior is clean and has comfortable seating. The staff was friendly and quick. Bathrooms were clean too.
The 2 tiniest little reasons holding back a 5 star review are location and freshness.
First, I think Hole in the Wall would be packed on weekends if they were in a better location. Even though it's near the heart of Kingston, it's not quite within walking distance from one thing or another. If placed in Rhinebeck or Beacon, Hole in the Wall would be filled to the brim with people. It's also not super helpful that parking is somewhat limited in that area.
Second, and this is a personal preference I know, I'd love to have the option of a warm & freshly made donut. Baked donuts are obviously tricky because they take time to make and can't be made to order, but if it's possible to freshly make a donut to order then I'd be ecstatic. To be clear, none of the 9 donuts my party tried were anywhere close to stale, but there's definitely a case for made to order donuts handed to you warm & tasty.
I would definitely go back to Hole in the Wall again and will be recommending it to all of my friends looking for a high quality donut shop. Y'all gotta rev up your marketing though because you do have a good product, now you just have to get the...
Read moreFinally a decent donut in New Paltz.
Having visited their previous location in Kingston, I had unfair expectations. Those unfair expectations were met. Surprisingly, there was a pretty wide variety of options available even during this soft open, but I guess I should've expected that after a few years of them crafting a lot of artful options.
It should be noted that this location is a bit smaller than the previous location and there's no indoor seating. That likely means donut options will sell out sooner, so I'd suggest trying to come early.
As for the donuts themselves, they're all well baked, well thought out recipes. Beautifully decorated and tasty. My only criticism is the same criticism I had for the original location, and that's freshness. To be clear, these are freshly baked donuts, but they're not made-to-order fresh. They'll be room temp, not warm. And while they're still 5 out 5 flavor and taste, I just wish I had an opportunity to try one straight out of the oven, even at open. I know it's hard to dress hot or warm donuts, but even just a couple varieties of fresh & warm baked or lightly dressed donuts were an option at open then I think it would take this spot to the top of the Hudson Valley best donuts list.
Overall, excited Hole in the Wall is in New Paltz. Glad they'll be adding...
Read moreI wasn’t planning on writing a review, but since my email was ignored I feel it is justified. I have had Hole In the Wall from their truck in Kingston before and loved it so much I was so excited to hear they were opening a storefront. I finally got to go on Sunday and bought 6 donuts. I was caught off guard by the 6 donuts costing $20, but went through with it anyways because I didn’t think they would disappoint. I got extra to take to my family I was traveling to. I tried one and was extremely disappointed to discover it was stale all the way through. At this point I couldn’t turn back and make a complaint. I completely understand that the donuts may not be made in house, but to charge $20 for stale donuts is ridiculous. And yes, all 6 of them were stale. I also want to note that all donuts are the same price regardless of how “fancy” they are. So even if you get 6 plain donuts, they will still be $20. I also totally understand if the donuts were a day old and they didn’t want to waste them, but at least label them as such and discount them. Unfortunately, I will not be returning and as much extra driving as it costs, I’ll be sticking with trusty ole Glazed Over...
