I've been going here for many years. Even though there is usually a line out the door on weekends I don't mind because you usually bump into someone you know from the neighborhood, strike up some convo or watch the news on the TV there. Food is pricey but always good, so it's worth it. But twice now I have been highly disappointed. First time is because my order was entirely messed up and everybody I had at my house that morning was not happy but they ate the food anyway. The 2nd time threw me for a loop...listen, I know it can be stressful, the place is packed and not all customers are pleasant. But this was on a Thursday morning and the place was not busy. But still, I give the benefit of the doubt...the young woman taking my order had an attitude with the way she looked at me (slight scowl) and her body language as i walked up to the counter. I smile and place my order. At the end of the order I asked for a particular item on my sandwich, and she snapped back at me with another item that I did not ask for. I repeated the item and she snapped back again, "it's all the same!" I calmly told her that no it's not the same, she said "well that's all that we use here!". And I was like okay 🙄...I'll just step over to the side and wait for my order as I always do. Then I heard her telling her co worker "this f'n guy is breaking my balls over this" etc. etc....she's going on and on and I can hear her clearly from about 15 feet away. Then I see her start making my food a bit carelessly. That was enough. I said cancel my order, I was disgusted. I was fine until I heard her back there carrying on and seeing her put my food together. I don't know what her issue was, but whatever it was you don't bring your problems to work and vent on customers. I felt bad after I left because that's just the type of person I am. I give people chance after chance but this...
Read moreIt is sad for me to have to give the Long Beach Bagel Cafe a failing grade of One Star--if there was an option for zero stars I would have done it. I have been going to this place for bagels since 1995, through several different owners, and the sad truth is that I will never go there again after the unfortunate incident of last Friday. It has always been a failing of the place that there are two kinds of staff that work the counter--seasoned professionals who know what they are doing, and transient losers (typically teenage girls) who can't be bothered to get an order right, take care in the preparation of food, and treat customers with respect. So, rather than wait on the long line and cause problems by refusing offers of service from the staff who clearly have trouble understanding the English language, waiting for a real employee to become available, I got impatient and gave our lengthy order to a girl in a hot pink T-shirt who was distracted, rude, wandered into the back kitchen for seven minutes, and eventually sent us away with several paper bags containing the most thoughtless, putrid, mismanaged, and incorrect piles of slop I have ever seen. I paid the 44 dollars without checking the bags--How tough could it be to put together some bagels, eggs, sable, etc? When I got home I was shocked and humiliated in front of our house guests by the individual toilet explosions which were supposed to be their breakfast orders. I drove back to the place and the girl hid in the restroom--she was probably getting pointers from the "bowl" on how to do her job better. The female manager very kindly took care of fixing things, but it was really too little, too late. It is sad to say, but the next time that we want bagels, we'll have to go to Beach Bagel and take the chance of getting HP Virus from touching the front door. Maybe we'll wear...
Read moreSome friends and I did a bike ride from Brooklyn to Point Lookout. On our way back home, we stopped at Long Island Bagel Cafe to rest and refuel. This was my first time eating here, so I did not know what to expect, but I did like the location. There was a huge parking lot, some bike parking and an outside seating area.
Upon entering the store, there was LOTS of food items to select from as well. My only issue is that many items did not have prices on them and we all know that we can safely agree that when prices are NOT on items, they are usually expensive. LOL.
There were long lines but they moved quickly. There were lots of registers with attentive and fast-moving staff taking countless orders with precision and care. It took me a little while to decide on what I wanted but when I did, my order was taken with attention and care.
I wont lie, when I was told the total price of everything that I ordered, I thought there was an error made. The price was EXTREMELY high for what I had, so for that alone, I was not too happy, to be honest. But, it is what it is…
The sandwich that I ordered was actually really good as well as the fruit cup and electrolyte drink. I was still baffled at the total price of those three items, but, the deliciousness of the sandwich took my mind off of that.
I did use the restroom and it was really clean, as was the entire store and its outside space. Overall, this store gets a high rating; friendly and great customer service, lots of options to choose from and a great environment. My only suggestion is the put prices on items so that customers are aware in advance and can choose items with more confidence because they know the price.
Thank you very much L.I.B.C. I will hopefully see...
