I'm not sure what happened to the Schdy Applebee's recently, but this Applebee's has gone way down hill. The last 2 times I stopped here after work, my experience was terrible. The first time I stopped in was when Applebee's recently changed its closing time from 11pm to 12am. I showed up at 11pm figuring I had an hour before they closed. A disgruntled group was walking out as I was walking in, and told me not to bother going in. Against that advice, I went in and sat at the bar. No bartender was back there. The bar sink was running hot water on full blast with steam rising to the ceiling. Two other servers walked by me more than once without any acknowledgement of my presence. This went on for 15 minutes before a young lady approached me. The first thing she said to me was that the kitchen had already closed. No hello, or how are you doing.... Just that the kitchen was closed. I asked if I could have a beer. She poured one. When I finished that beer at about 11:25pm, I figured I still had 35 minutes to have another one. Well the bartender walked by me one time. She walked by me a second time. She walked by me a third time to close the lottery machine. Finally, I asked her if I could have another beer. She said I could but I had to pay my tab right away because she needed to count her register. I got the second beer and a wet receipt next to it. In addition to this poor experience, it just seemed like the restaurant wasn't clean. Debris was all over the rug, the bar has several sticky spots near where I was sitting, the stool next to me looked like somebody spilled something on it and nobody cleaned it up, and overall, it just looked like nobody takes care of the place. I never saw a manager come out of the back while I was there and the employees seemed to be more interested in their cell phones than paying attention to their tables or the customers.
I let about 2 months go by before I went back. This time, I went with two co-workers after shift around 11pm. We arrived at 10:58pm to find the door locked. The hours sign right next to the front entrance, the Applebee's website, and the hours on Google all said that they were open until midnight. I could see employees inside, but again, the door was locked. I tried calling the business to ask about the door being locked, but nobody picked up.
I've received a couple emails from Applebee's in the last few months advertising that they've extended the hours. But what good is that if they don't stay open until the advertised time. I could understand closing the door and closing the kitchen 15-20 minutes before closing time, but an hour and 2 minutes early is ridiculous. And if staffing was an issue, put a sign on your door apologizing for the inconvenience and explain the situation. Just locking the door and not answering the phone when I try calling during your operating hours, is just poor...

I am writing to express my extreme disappointment regarding a truly horrendous experience at your Schenectady Applebee's location yesterday evening, July 18, 2025. The issues we encountered were largely due to the inattentiveness of an employee named Joshua and the apparent carelessness of the manager on duty. Our visit began with a significant delay in being seated. We stood waiting for well over five minutes, completely unacknowledged by any staff members, including Joshua, the manager, and other servers, despite being clearly visible. Joshua eventually acknowledged my friend only after he continued his conversation with others at the bar, and even then, we were left waiting for another few minutes before anyone offered assistance. Joshua then disappeared again, further prolonging our wait. The second and more alarming issue was spotting a mouse running through the dining room. When I pointed this out, Joshua informed the manager, who simply looked at the situation and then walked away without any visible concern or action. While I understand that a pest could potentially enter a restaurant, the complete lack of response from management was a serious cause for concern and a significant "slap in the face." This indifference raises questions about your establishment's health and safety standards. The final and most frustrating incident occurred when I expressed my dislike for my meal. Joshua took my dish away, offering no apology, no alternative, and simply stating, "Oh, okay" before walking off. This complete lack of customer service and empathy was the final straw in what was already a very unpleasant dining experience. We chose to dine at your Applebee's location out of necessity, and the entire visit left us feeling disregarded and undervalued. No apologies were offered at any point throughout these incidents. I ordered online, opted to pay in store, when I arrived, I waited 17 mins past my “ready” time, 7 of those minutes were spent waiting to see a human that didn’t pass me by without saying anything as I was clearly waiting in the to go area for my food. Finally I get my bag of food and in big bold letters the waitress/waiter/someone that works there wrote “NO TIP” on the kitchen receipt that was staple attached to the bag, after I saw this, I knew it was bound to be a disaster. I had full intentions on tipping in store once I had received reasonable servicex as last time I payed online and tipped near $20 to have this near exact situation occur - I left wishing I hadn’t left a dime. So I Drove 1.2 miles home, opened the bag. Food looked repulsive, the ribs were shredded up, everything was ice cold, pretzel sticks hard, no cheese sent, payed for extra sauce, didn’t get it, French fries were cold and hard, I was missing multiple items. Called the restaurant asked for manager, was told “he left”, I then expressed my frustration to the employee on the phone who decided to cut me off mid sentence and state “sir I’m not gonna sit here while you yell at me” all I could think was (wow, well you certainly sat and did absolutely nothing while I was standing there waiting quietly) well then SIR, refund my money immediately (still no refund, despite them claiming it was issued) . This place is an absolute SH*TSHOW. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY GOING TO THIS SPECIFIC APPLEBEES. YOU WOULD BE BETTER OFF DRIVING TO LATHAM OR JOHNSTOWN!!! STAY AWAY FROM SCHENECTADY APPLEBEES. CONTINUED PATRONAGE TO THIS LOCATION WILL JUST PORTRAY TO CORPORATE THAT ITS OKAY TO LET THEM KEEP DOING SCHENECTADY LIKE THIS!
