Darwin is one of Syracuse's truly great establishments. I've been going once every few months for the better part of a decade. The food is always delicious and creative, and the workers are really...nice. Like, for years on end. I don't usually leave reviews but they really deserve it. I remember one time I called to place a pickup order and I asked them to not include the fried tomatoes on the sandwich because they were fried with some seafood that day they had on the menu, and I have a shellfish allergy. When I picked up the sandwich, they had included the tomatoes on the sandwich, insisting that they wanted me to experience it how it was meant to be had- and they had fried the tomato's separately in fresh oil just for me. That's not something I would expect a busy place to do again, but that was a while back and I still think of that customer service and act of kindness years later. I also remember they took care of healthcare workers during COVID. Thanks, Darwin, for a decade...
Read moreFirst of all the food is absolutely delicious. But what drove me to make sure to write a review was the customer service. Unfortunately, my boyfriend didn’t check our bag before leaving the sandwich shop and didn’t realize until he got home that one of our sandwiches were missing. He immediately called and asked the employee who answered the phone if they could just hook him up next time he came in since we live about 20 mins away and didn’t want to drive back and forth again. They said yes of course, took his info, and apologized. Then less than TWO MINS later the owner called him back and insisted he personally brought us the sandwich to our home. We told him it was okay he doesn’t have to do that but, he came anyway!! Also put in some extras in there for us! We are all human and make mistakes but it’s what you do after that mistake that truly matters. You don’t come across people going above and beyond like that very much...
Read moreLoved it. I ordered the Optimus Prime Sandwich and it was delicious. The bread was very high quality and the meat was tender and very flavorful. The gentleman behind the counter was really helpful in helping me to decide what to choose. He was patient and didn't look annoyed. He even gave me a free soda since it was my first time eating there! The decor is cool and eclectic - it looks somewhat like a 50's diner. It was super clean...you could tell these people really care about the impression their restaurant gives to customers. I also had the poblano potato salad which was just okay (it could've used a little more salt and just more flavor...poblano added just a hint of kick but overall, it lacked flavor). The sandwich more than made up for it! I definitely see why the reviews are so complimentary and why it's so highly rated. I definitely recommend this gem of...
