I just moved to Syracuse and was looking forward to trying this coffee shop after reading the positive reviews. I’d worked in artisanal coffee in Seattle and NYC for years and have been struggling to find a decent roastery in Syracuse. I stopped in today, told the owner it was my first time in and that I’d like a cup of coffee and some beans. He explained that he was only roasting and serving dark roast by the end of the week, so I replied that I’d actually come back on Monday for some light roast beans and just buy a cup to-go for today. He interrupted me mid-sentence to say “try this because you don’t know what you’re talking about” and pushed a sample at me. I interjected, “I do, I’ve worked in coffee in Seattle and NYC for several years.” I took a sip, was underwhelmed by the dark roast (as I knew I would be), and explained that I know I’m not particularly fond of dark roast, which is why I’d rather wait to purchase a full bag of beans. I’ve been drinking good coffee for over a decade and by now I know what I like. I was so thrown off by his arrogance that I decided to not even buy a cup and turned around and left. I’m a young woman and it seemed as though that’s why he profiled me and assumed I “didn’t know what I was talking about.” If not for his flagrant disrespect, I would have purchased a cup today, come back for light roast beans on Monday, and likely returned as a repeat customer for the rest of my time in Syracuse. Folks who don’t know much about coffee sourcing, roasting, and all other aspects of the business might be impressed by his know-it-all attitude, but I’m not impressed by being spoken down to while eagerly trying to support a local...
Read moreGREAT coffee. Strong but not bitter. Simple choices: hot, cold or expresso. No half soy lattes here. But what you do get is an excellent cup of coffee, as good as I have found. Rarely (only a handful of times in my life) have I come across a cup of coffee as good as Kind coffee has every single day (that they are open). The owner/operator/sole staffer, Doug, explained his simple recipe. Buy the best beans, roast them fresh daily at precise temperatures, grind fresh, and make the coffee with equipment that brews at the perfect temp and time. If you enjoy fairly strong coffee, you will be delighted. And his coffee, while strong, avoids being bitter. So those who do not drink it black can add some cream and it will still taste great. For a real treat, stop at Columbus bakery before and get a fresh loaf of bread. Columbus bread and a Kind coffee are wonderful together. The owner Doug, can appear to be a bit of a character at first, but a nice character you will be happy to have...
Read moreDoug, the owner is one of the best guys around! You can tell that he is passionate about his work, and it shows in his quality and delicious coffee! The atmosphere is very chill and laid back. You can have a nice cup of coffee and relax and play a game, or enjoy the company of one of the awesomely sweet pups! If it's your first time, Doug will walk you through the steps and process of coffee beans, helping you to find your perfect beans. The selection is great and The Kind Coffee Co has some hard to find beans. If what you want isn't available, Doug will help you choose something close. Prices are very reasonable. I know know that if you like a light roast, early in the week is best. Medium roast in the middle of the week, and dark roast at the end. You can request your beans be roasted to your liking, as long as you don't mind waiting. The Kind Coffee Co, and Doug are excellent and really helped me fine tune my...
