Was in at 7:15 Monday morning 9-12-22 bought 2 donuts the apple fritter was good chocolate long John was somewhat cold in the middle. Can definitely tell they come in pre fried and frozen. Also bought a loaf of bread. It also was frozen an thawed. I was a baker for almost 20 years. I can tell these things. But big clue all of the loaves were cold and the packages were sweating wet. Was very disappointed. Especially how everyone raves about this place. I guess Americans have lost the appreciation and knowledge of fresh made quality products. The least you could do is thaw the breads well before opening time, but I guess people are so clueless they don't know any different anyway. I'm giving 3 stars because it wasn't terrible but not made on site. Same as any in store bakery these days. Few places actually make there baked goods anymore. Sad but true. I know it's partly because there are so few bakers left and nobody is training more. Also good bakers donut fryers cost money to employ and training new ones is a long slow process especially when turnover is so high. I just was expecting more from cops an donuts. The owners response is insane. If you make and freeze it there and thaw it. It is the EXACT same thing as buying it in frozen. There is no such thing as fresh frozen. And high volume why why why are you freezing it? I would rather run out than sell a sub par product! And that is what a frozen product is. Especially after it's been baked or fried. Frozen dough is much much better than...
Read moreMy husband and I saw the billboard for Cops & Doughnuts when we were driving through Claire and thought the concept was so funny that we had to take a look
There's a small gift shop at the entrance that we fell prey to and we each got a themed mug (but we collect mugs, so it made sense to us). They were reasonably priced at less than $10 each
There were so many choices for doughnuts! I'll usually get a Long John and places typically have a custard filled and a cream filled, but this place had, like, 7 different types. I settled on a coconut cream. I got a classic chocolate glazed cake doughnut, too. My husband got his favorite apple fritter and glazed yeast doughnuts. You can't go wrong with a classic and boy, were all 4 of them good!
I got a coffee, too, but they didn't offer cream or sugar, and I felt too awkward to ask, so I drank the coffee black. Turns out, I didn't need cream OR sugar because the coffee wasn't super bitter and the sweetness of the doughnuts counteracted the slight bitterness of the coffee
I was talking to the employees and telling them about how it was our first time there, and they even gave us stickers!
There's indoor and outdoor seating
There's a sign on the door that says they prefer cash, but that does not mean that cards are off the table. Feel free to use your plastic! They just like cash better, for whatever reason
It's a really cute shop. If I'm ever in the area again, I'm going...
Read moreFantastic stopping ground for our trip up to our family vacation home in northern Michigan. We live in the greater Lansing area and we always have to stop at cops and donuts on the way up to the Frankfort area. The donuts here are fantastic and the service is fast and friendly. The portion sizes of the donuts and other baked goods are very generous compared to other donut shops. This place is not just another donut shop. Truly fantastic donuts and other baked goods. Cooking and baking is a huge hobby of mine, and I’ve been doing it since I was a little kid. As a person that knows, handmade and fresh made, I can tell you that they make everything from scratch; with the best ingredients.
The only thing that I really miss that they used to offer was a little café diner. A few years back they used to have a little place attached to them where you could get really amazing breakfast. The biscuits and gravy were amazing. Please consider bringing this back. We used to always stop here for...
