The Whitehouse Restaurant — Restaurant in Clare

We have family that lives in Clare and we came and stayed at cottage for a memorial for my Uncle who was a resident of Clare. I have always wanted to stop in and dine here when we visited. I have a disability and was not that good this morning. When we arrived for breakfast of course the tables were filled so we immediately went outside to wait. about 10 minutes later, a gentleman walked out and said there’s a table for you so we waited probably another five minutes before we walked in. He had been dining alone, and there was one cup and one plate on the table. My husband waited, but I had to sit down my legs were so bad. So an older lady came to the table and said I have to wipe this down. I said thank you I had to sit and she took the plate and cup to the bin. Just then a woman in about her 20s yelled across the restaurant from the back, but she made her face seen and said . We like to wipe the tables 1st before people sit down. I was so embarrassed, and everyone looked at me. My husband walked out of there, and I got up and left. All I could say is I guess we’re leaving. The woman who took the plate in cup said I’m sorry for that. I have never been treated like that ever at an establishment and obviously I didn’t have a problem sitting at a table that needed to be wiped off so long story short I know I didn’t get any food But I will never find out what that restaurant is all about because I will...

Wonderful restaurant. Blew in here from CA for a bite to eat on the way to my in-laws' cabin and I must say I was impressed! The menu's pretty big so there's plenty of variety. We ended up splitting an order of fried pickles and getting some bacon burgers. Had to change the order partway through for some added ingredients and it went super smoothly. The staff was incredibly nice and cared to make sure they made everything to the customer's liking which was very appreciated. My only gripe is how small the place was but honestly it added to its charm. They cook everything right in front of the dining area, so you can see everything being made right there and being so close to the other customers made for good conversation about the local universities. If you can get over the tight quarters then you're gonna have a great time here. Great food, great staff, and great vibes all around. Whether you're stopping by on a road trip or a regular patron, I can't recommend this place enough if you're into hole in the wall burger joints. Family owned since at least 2000 as well, so your dollar goes right to the wonderful, hard working people who keep the place running so smoothly. We stopped here while passing through. My husband had the special of the week, the cowboy burger, with onion rings. He loved it! Said their burgers are quality made and delicious!

My MIL had the bacon burger, also with onion rings and was equally impressed.

I had the cherry burger. I was nervous to try it and was expecting it to be smothered in the cherry topping but it wasn't. It was a mild flavor but just enough that you could taste it: kind of spiced, semi-sweet, and the nuts complimented all of it. Next time I would get double cheese but otherwise I'm so glad I stepped outside of my comfort zone to try this. Delicious!

Lastly, we shared a full order of "nothern" fries. These were so tasty! They didn't have a ton of meat on them but the flavor was on point. They would have been even better if the fries were extra crispy. The seasoning in the gravy overpowered the flavors in the cherry burger so I don't think I'd get them together again. Both are really delicious as independent dishes!

Overall, the place wasn't the cleanest, didn't have comfortable seating, and had maybe the smallest bathroom we've ever seen However, the staff was great, the food was delicious, and the preparation was quick!...
