WiFi is A-OK. Food is meh. Service is great, pricing is Claremont, so meh. Hey don't get me wrong, the aesthetic is nice, the little cafe in a little town, great, but there's always room for improvement.
First and foremost, let's talk about the WiFi. I know, I know, what a weird thing to talk about when reviewing a business on Yelp. But we're talking about a cafe, in Claremont which is in LA County. LA, which is supposedly a modern city, yet has cafes like this in year 2018 that are running on subpar internet connections. The last time I ran a speedtest at this cafe, there were no customers inside and I barely got 5 Mbps. You can't work under these conditions if you have to do a large file upload, which applies to students that are doing project workloads or working professionals that need to upload large data sets and they don't want to be working in the office. Seriously, walk three blocks away and you'll have 300 Mbps down and 300 Mbps up at Augie's Coffee House. I mean, you don't have to walk far to have a noticeable difference.
Now with that said, onto the food. The food is okay. It's not amazing, but it's not terrible and the food is moderately fresh. I get sandwiches every now and then. Coffee is meh.
This is Claremont, so it's kind of hard to knock pricing since it's an expensive area to set up shop.
All in all, it's a bit of a mixed bag. The lack of good WiFi is really baffling to me, considering some internet service providers will offer as low as $80 a month for 1000 Mbps, but the business insists on running on some antiquated DSL connection from the early 2000's instead. Why? Everything else is to be expected about a cafe.
With many "little cafe" options around Claremont, I would say this is one you could afford to skip especially if you want to work remote, but hey, it's still a cute little...
Read moreWell looked up Vegan food for our bike ride..so we took a ride all the way to Claremont to have a bite to eat..Get to the place cute, small as hell, two usable tables with 2 chairs each, so decided to sit outside well no umbrella. Ok who cares lets talk about the food..#19 was the only vegan option which was called Vegan Out... spicy mustard, lettuce, tomato, cucumber, avocado, onions, pepperoncini, Alfalfa sprouts and French onion dip..so I asked the lady at the counter if I could put the avocado 🥑 on the side, she said NO either it is on the sandwich or it is not...well I don't eat avocado (can you believe I am allergic) Needless to say I asked her to put it on one side of the sandwich for my husband who love avocado. It was about $10 not bad... but the sandwich was horrible tastes like a pepperonicini, Alfalfa sprout mess on white bread. Heck maybe I should have taken a chance and got sick off the avocado. So we left there to go find another place to eat. Good luck oh and tell the lady who work there to calm down relax...Enjoy...
Read moreHipster coffee. As in, they act elitist, but aren't up to snuff like most. They have a ton of things scribbled on a board, so I knew the blonde girl at the counter wouldn't have the patience for me to read over it. Made the mistake of asking her if they had Ethiopian drip coffee. What a stupid thing to do, apparently... ask people at a place called Last Drop if they have drip coffee. She already gave a dirty look as I came in, and this question greenlit her to help as little as possible. She couldn't even bother to answer, and a tall male who may have some management position without stopping spins the coffee turnstyle around and suggests that one labeled "dark" would suffice. It was generic. Don't even care much about the coffee, really. Just wanted a place to relax, and they ruined it.
Seems like college students who aren't depending on this to pay rent and so don't care what happens.
They Asian guy was the only nice one out...
