This review only applies to my visit on January 19, 2021. And what I share will most likely not impact the bakery's popularity nor loyal patronage. My very first "successful" visit after much recommendation. I use the word successful because every time I have tried to visit in the past the line has been exceedingly long. Looking through the glass window for the delicacies doesn't help as it's difficult to see and they just might sell out before you get inside the shop. I braved the minor wait on the 19th, and picked up the 4" Round "DECADENCE" Torte and the Specialities "MOUSSE DOME". The tort was a big disappointment. the menu promises a rich flourless chocolate torte covered in dark chocolate ganache. While probably rich in calories, the texture was dry and crumbly. The ganache was the saving grace. The buttercream flowers decorations had the taste of stick butter. Not a palatable experience by any means. Now, onto the Mousse Dome. That was exceptional, I have to admit. I'm hoping that the torte was an anomaly and that the baker can tweak his recipe and/or method so it doesn't resemble eating cocoa powder. I would hate to think that the torte I purchased was stale. I'm knocking down another star because the prices you pay at the register are higher than those listed on their website and on the paper menus provided inside the bakery. Hopefully those corrections can be made ASAP. Will I return? Yes. I just gotta get there first thing in the morning! Staff was very attentive in spite of the number of customers waiting in line, so be patient if you ABSOLUTELY must get your bakery fix...
Read moreMy wedding was at San Dimas Canyon Golf Course, and they have a package deal with Some Crust where the cake is included in the wedding package. I chose to have cupcakes instead, with a small "top layer" cake. I had carrot cake with cream cheese frosting for the top layer cake, and then I had four different choices of cupcakes: carrot cake, pound cake (with a strawberry on top), raspberry lime, and mini cheesecakes. Everything was delicious!! I also loved that as part of the package, you can go back for your first anniversary (doesn't actually have to be on the exact date) and get the same top layer again - or you can change it up if you want - for free! No need to keep cake in the freezer. :) The only thing I didn't like: I was able to sample a few cake flavors with the wedding coordinator person, who sat there extremely patiently waiting for me to make decisions. It was nice that she was patient, but I remember (this was in 2014) it being really weird...she didn't offer any tips, any suggestions, any...anything. She just stayed quiet the whole time, only saying facts. But anyway, then when I decided I wanted cupcakes, I wasn't able to sample their cupcake flavors for free, so we actually had to buy some to decide what to order.
Update 2024: Pretty good prices for a bakery! My husband lovessss croissants, and he said it was the BEST one he's ever had! And it was big, too! I enjoyed the raspberry lime cheesecake cupcake, but at $4.25 it was a bit on the higher end. Cookies are big and just $3. Maple pecan bar was just...
Read moreIf I could give a zero rating I would have. I’ve been coming to this bakery for over 10 years now and purchasing anything from cakes to cupcakes to all their bakery items until today. I was told the last time I had come in to the bakery I could order my chocolate chip scones that were always available up until the last two visits I’ve made to the bakery. Called this morning to order my 1/2 dozen chocolate chip scones and I was told you cannot order these because they are now a seasonal item and will not return if they even do return until March of next year. Since when are Chocolate Chips a seasonal item? Last time I checked those are available all year long. It sounds like the baker might be a bit overworked and can’t find the time to assist long term clients who now will not be coming into this establishment any longer. It’s a shame because I always looked forward to their chocolate chip scones. Guess I’ll be going over to the other bakery in The Village since they do cater to new and existing clients in a way that will generate more business and referrals from me. See ya later Some Crust Bakery, you’ve lost yet another customer to your lack of good...
