We were looking for a place that was different but still quaint and came across Viva Madrid in Claremont. We thought let's give them a try. We walked in and the host was amazing. She accommodated us right away. We sat in their outdoor seating area. The table and chairs were a bit off putting, they were old and some chairs were plastic and some were metal. The tables were falling apart. The server seemed as if it was her 1st day on the job but it was not. She came by and got our drink order, which was water to start. She came back with our waters in a timely matter but after the waters it was all downhill from there. We ordered our beverages and food. She brought out our drinks. We waited about 20 minutes for 1 of our food selections and then she came back about 15 minutes later asking if our everything was ok. We told her we were still waiting for most of what we ordered. She looked down at her notepad and said oh ok. This went on for most of the night. We had to remind her every time she came by that we were still waiting on our orders. We saw people who arrived after us getting their food or maybe it was ours that was given to them because at some point they looked confused as if they had not ordered that but took it anyways. Some people actually told them that they had not ordered it and it was an item we ordered. The food was great but the service needs a great deal of help and I'm not talking staffing shortage because they had plenty of staff and they were not too busy to really take care of their customers.
We visit places for the food, ambiance and service, unfortunately if the service is bad it really doesn't matter how good the food is we will not return. It really is unfortunate because the food was quite good, but we will not...
Read moreLocated in the Claremont Village near Starbucks. They open at 4pm on weekends, we got there at 4:30pm on Saturday, wait time was 45 mins for us party of 2 yet they immediately sat a family of 4 who got there after we did...we understood the size of party mattered though and waited patiently. After waiting 1 hr & 10 minutes, we asked for an update & got our table shortly after. The restaurant is tiny with limited seating which explains the wait times. They hand you a sheet with Tapas menu (appetizer size items) you have to scan on your phone to see full menu & pricing. Food was decent with good presentation but the Paella was underwhelming. Our server was efficient and helpful with the menu. We wanted to order dessert but they were rushing us out so we ordered dessert To-Go which was very overpriced, $8.25 for a scoop of plain rice pudding. Feels like they only want you to order Tapas so you hurry up and leave. What made our experience completely awful was not only did we feel rushed, (not by our server) but by another staff member who seemed to be the food runner came to our table and politely asked us to leave because their waiting list for party of 2's was long. This is happening as my husband is still drinking his 2nd beer! We were in disbelief and thought he was joking but he was serious. I had never been asked to leave a restaurant specially after spending $130 for a rushed dinner, not a good feeling. Definitely not a good vibe here when you can't enjoy a full meal. Based on our bad experience, we...
Read moreWe were first to arrive at this place , and the first to be put on the list when they open . But since we we’re still waiting for one other person , who still was looking for parking they had to call other guest . The restaurant itself is very tight and small . This is not a place to bring little kids , and have them running around . Not sure if the restaurant itself is handicap friendly due to space , it just seems like a very tight space . Not sure where you can move other chairs or park wheel chairs or motorized scooters ect . They do have a big waiting area outside I guess you can leave things there ? And hopefully it doesn’t get taken away . I guess I would call first if anyone in your party , has any handicap equipment . So finally we got seated and placed our order and want to say the tapas is amazing . The squid and Octopus items we order was really good , it was very Soft and not over cooked . Since the seafood was not rubbery at all . This place did hit the spot , since I was missing Spain . And wish I was back . I can see why this place is very popular , I sure hope that they can improve in checking in with our table . Our drinks never was refilled , and we wanted to order more food , always had to call on someone . Hoping my next experience at least they can improve by checking in on us if we need anything else . I even put the empty plates on edges to give them hints , to come by and pick them up so we can order more . And empty drink...
