Title: Extremely Disappointing Dining Experience at Chuy's Mexican Restaurant
I recently visited Chuy's Mexican Restaurant with my wife, hoping to enjoy a pleasant evening out. Unfortunately, our experience at this establishment was nothing short of a disaster, leaving us deeply dissatisfied and frustrated.
To begin with, we were initially attended to by a trainee, which in itself is not necessarily a problem. However, the lack of experience was evident in the quality of service provided. It became apparent that the trainee was not adequately trained to handle the responsibilities of waiting tables, and this led to several issues throughout our meal.
One particularly upsetting incident occurred when my wife inquired about purchasing some of Chuy's renowned Jalapeno Ranch dip to take home. The trainer, who took over after the trainee, mentioned they sold it and had a 32-ounce container available. However, she conveniently neglected to mention the exorbitant price associated with it. When my wife asked the trainee about the cost, she claimed it was around $8, which seemed reasonable. Based on this information, we agreed to purchase it.
To our dismay, when the main waitress brought us the Jalapeno Ranch along with the check, she accidentally knocked over a full glass of water onto my wife. This unfortunate incident, coupled with the shock of discovering that the 32-ounce Jalapeno Ranch cost over $19, left us both incredibly upset and disappointed.
Seeking resolution, we requested to speak with the manager. Regrettably, the manager's response was underwhelming and did nothing to address the situation adequately. While the Jalapeno Ranch was promptly removed from the bill, the manager attempted to sell us smaller sizes as an alternative, which only added insult to injury.
Frustrated and agitated, I decided to pay at the front instead of dealing with the server who had spilled the drink. However, despite my clear dissatisfaction, the establishment insisted on having the server collect the payment. This further intensified my anger, as I had no desire to interact with her at that point.
In the end, I paid the bill and left without leaving a tip. This decision was not made lightly but was a direct reflection of the exceptionally poor dining experience we had just endured.
Overall, our visit to Chuy's Mexican Restaurant was marred by subpar service, a lack of transparency regarding prices, an accident resulting in spilled water on my wife, and a manager who failed to provide satisfactory assistance. With so many disappointments and frustrations, I can confidently say that this was the worst dining experience I have ever encountered. I sincerely hope that the restaurant takes this feedback seriously and works towards improving their service standards and customer...
Read moreThis is my second time eating at this Chuy's location and my fourth time eating at Chuy's overall. The food used to be better. I don't expect more than mediocre chain restaurant food, but it used to be better prepared and have flavor. It's pretty bland and flavorless now.
We were told it would be a 15 to 20-minute wait so we went to the bar to order drinks. The bartender brought me something completely different from what I ordered and when I corrected him on it, he didn't apologize but just said he must have misheard me. But that's not true because he actually repeated back to me what I ordered when I ordered it, so he just made the wrong drink and/or tried to upsell me without me noticing. (Attempted overcharge #1 of the visit.)
Bar service is fairly quick because everything is premixed so they just pour it into a cup and hand it to you. They refilled our chips and salsa while we waited to be called for dinner.
45 minutes went by and we still didn't get texted that our table was ready so the bartender asked somebody and they got us a table.
The bar tables were only half full and service was kind of slow, but overall okay. The waitress was friendly.
My buddy ordered the Baja shrimp tacos and the shrimp are supposed to be battered and fried but they weren't. They were just boiled.
I and the other people commented that the food was pretty flavorless and uninspired and we remember that it used to be better in the past.
When I got my bill I was charged for a higher-end drink that I didn't order. When I pointed this out to the waitress she didn't apologize but just said "oh I must have punched the wrong button". Not great. Makes me wonder if she did it on purpose just to run up the bill. (Attempted overcharge #2 of the visit.)
Also the tip calculations they put on the receipt are wrong and too high. Everyone knows you're supposed to tip on the pre-tax amount, but they calculate it based on the after-tax amount. That's dishonest. (Attempted overcharge #3 of the visit.)
So there were three attempts to overcharge me on this one visit! So bad!
Overall it was a pretty disappointing experience and I likely will not...
Read moreWe were headed to an appointment on Veteran's on my Birthday and wifey said "Where do you want to go for your Birthday dinner"? My answer is always...ALWAYS...Chuy's. Since we've been by this location a few times it made the decision easy.
From the outside to the inside, Chuy's is themed very well. It's colorful, has a shaded waiting area outside, and as you approach the building you get drawn into the experience. The inside is just as vibrant as the outside, and there's so much stuff hanging from the ceiling you wonder how it stays up. There are also multiple dining areas, and the building is much bigger inside than it looks outside.
The staff is constantly in motion here, and one of the cool things they do is provide your silverware in a sealed paper bag, ensuring that is has been cleaned and sanitized.
Chuy's tortilla chips are amazing...no, they're fantastic...no, they're OUTSTANDING. Thin, light, and crisp, and freshly made. I've eaten chips in (and this is not an exaggeration) hundreds of Mexican restaurants. These are THE BEST, hands down. They have a (I'm guessing) sour cream based jalapeño salsa that is out of this world delicious.
I ordered the steak burrito, and I was only disappointed when I was done with it. :( It was amazing, and the steak was cooked like it was in a contest. I'd have taken a picture, but it would have meant waiting to start eating it. Chuy's is also not afraid to use spice, and the steak burrito was definitely my idea of perfectly spicy.
Because Wifey mentioned that it was my birthday we got some delicious warm, fresh churros in an amazing warm caramel sauce. Chuy's doesn't play the "Let's Sing Happy Birthday to the Birthday Guest" game (thankfully), but to be honest, those churros were better than a piece of birthday cake would have been anyway.
Our first visit to this location was great and since we're routinely in Clarksville, we will 100%...
