Yi Ge(NUMBER One) Asian Cuisine (壹哥烧腊） — Restaurant in Clayton

So my experience at Yi Ge was a bit of a rollercoaster. To begin, when my mother (who was visiting from out of town) and I arrived during the lunch time there was not a single other car in the parking lot. We get inside to be greeted by a host with "ugh I'm just so tired and can't catch a break. I'll seat you" As he's walking us to our booth, we notice atleast 6-7 of their tables have used dishes stacked and are visibly dirty. Again, we are the only patrons in the restaurant and no one was even leaving when we arrived so not sure why it seemed to be in such disarray. We sat and ordered and the host (who is also our waiter) seems extremely bothered by our existence. We get our food in a timely manner 👍 and all of the food is actually delicious and the portions are ample for lunch and the price so no complaints with it comes to quality and taste. However, during our meal the waiter/host has a tendency to make things entirely awkward and uncomfortable. He proceeds to interject himself while my mother and I are talking and eating by saying things like "yea I haven't eaten today" then he'd walk away and come back a minute later and say "I can't eat when things are bothering me" then leave and come back again and say "and when I said that I mean things are bothering me so much in basically fasting.i haven't eaten in like 10 hours " ... as he's standing there drinking a Monster and watching us eat. Returns again after a few minutes and says "and 10 hours is a really long time" All this time in between interrupting my mother and my meal, he's walking around the restaurant huffing and heavy sighing. I completely understand mentally struggling, but making patrons/ guests feel uncomfortable to the point where we asked for boxes for our food, not because we were finished, but simply so we could leave the establishment and take it home to eat in peace is not appropriate. Had a date night here the other day. It was nice to find a Chinese restaurant that offered more elegant seating. Not elegant, just more elegant than your normal Chinese hole in the wall. We were seated and promptly given our waters. Then we waited close to 45 minutes for someone to ask for our appetizer orders. To save time, we placed all food at once but placed the apps first. I think that’s pretty normal. The food came out randomly. Main dishes before apps. It was a bit odd. My girlfriend asked for a boba drink and the waitress said she’d see if she could get around to it. It never came. The service was extremely sub par for the entire night. The food itself was ok at best and borderline repulsive at worst. This seems like the kind of place you sit down at to get your usual “safe” Chinese food options. Chicken and broccoli, sesame chicken… things like that. We got the popular peking duck. A half order. Barely any meat, soaked in oil, and tasted extremely gamey. We also got the crispy pork belly. Not the best I have had but also not the worst. Just not really note worthy. The “steamed” bao buns we got were hard as a rock and filled with the same pork. We also got a pineapple fried rice and a wonton soup. Both were solid choices. Also fairly “safe” choices. This is the kind of place you get your normal Chinese food order from. If I got the “hey babe I don’t want to cook tonight, pick up something on the way in” I’d consider this place over McDonald’s. I'm writing this review while still sitting at the restaurant. This was the worst experience I've had eating somewhere. The waitress couldn't answer any of my questions and just said "I don't know" to everything so I just went with the "hot bar" option where you go up and get the food yourself. The owner (I'm guessing) walked me up there and helped me get my food from the other lady behind the hot bar. Everything was going fine until we got to the soup part. The Hispanic lady that was on the other side didn't understnd what this lady was saying so she had to go behind the bar and do it herself. Thats not the problem. The problem is that the Asian lady said to the Hispanic lady "you don't speak English and I don't speak Spanish get out of my way". She poured my soup and then before walking back to the side where I'm at she said to the Hispanic lady "speak English". Onto the food now... I got the sesame chicken with lo mean and egg drop soup and crab Rangoons. The only thing good was the egg drop soup. The crab rangoons wasn't anything but cream cheese. I honestly think they forgot the other ingredients. The sesame chicken and lo mein was like I was eating left overs from three nights ago I heated up in the microwave. WORST CHINESE EVER.
