It was the early afternoon. My wife and I had just finished hiking along the shore line at Wendy Park on Whiskey Island and were heading home. We were famished. We talked about getting food while driving back down Lake/Detroit towards W. 65th when we passed Local West. She tried to Google it to see the menu but didn’t get the full name so she couldn’t find it. We made it to W. 65th and were going to get something in the Gordon Square area when something told us to just turn around and try this place. And I’m glad we doubled back. What a great little place. I got the Cubano Sandwich and my wife got a burger. I got a side of Mac and Cheese and she got fries. We both got lemonade which was amazing. You could tell it was legit fresh squeezed. Both my sandwich and her burger were well prepared, although if I had to nitpick, and this is really reaching, maybe the one cut of meat on the Cubano was a bit thicker than I’d like, but, it was a great sandwich. I’d get it again for sure. My wife loved her fries, not too salty either, but; the Mac and Cheese I got was out of this world. Like it was made with real cheese! You could just tell. Anyway, for sure we will go back. Will probably bring the kids too! Easy access from the Edgewater Park area too, even if you’re heading from Edgewater Park (or downtown) and going further west, Lakewood or the like, Local West is close enough where you can take Lake Road off Route 2 and you’re basically there. If you’re looking for a great little place on the west side that has their own parking lot and has great food, look no further than...
Read moreI went in tonight and three employees were their, one heavy set man stated they were short staffed so they closed early. There were two men and woman working as well. The open sign was on and I stated that doesn't make since, I was just here last night and their were only two workers a female and a male on the grill, but tonight there's three people. I asked his name he stated Goldie. I called prior to going there, there was no answer, a customer was leaving out and they had a bag sitting on the counter for another customer to pick up, he did ask if I placed an order I stated I had called twice but there was no answer. I work two minutes away, google states they close at 9p.m. so this wasn't adding up. I asked can I speak to the manager he stated he was the manager, I asked if the owner new he was closing early he stated he can make that decision on his own. I got there at 8:25 p.m. the past couple nights I've been ordering from here because it's close to my job needless to say I won't be back. I'm big on customer service, that was false advertisment. I myself am a business owner and that is not how a business is ran. If the grill closes at a certain time that should be stated on Google. To say your short staffed was clearly a lie. They wanted to leave early because it's a Friday night. If he was truly the manager I would be reeducating that manager because that will turn alot of people away. I definitely won't be back and it sucks because it was clean, close to my job and I really like the...
Read moreGreat food and have been a long time customer at Local West, but I will not be going there again after my experience this past weekend. I stopped there so my fiancé could run in and grab a to-go sandwich for lunch. I looped around the parking lot and waited in the car, parked at the street side of the parking lot. After a minute my fiancé comes out and asks me to move my car because the Chef didn't like where I was parked. I thought this was a joke because there were only two cars in the lot and at least 5-6 open spots next to me. Two minutes later, an male employee, whom I assume was the Chef comes out to my car and begins screaming and berating me that he did not like how I was parked and needed to move. I tried to explain to him that I wasn't going to be parked here for more than 5 minutes as my fiancé was just waiting to get her food then we'd be on our way. Again, there were 5-6 spots open and nobody coming in or out of the lot. The employee then called me a dick and began swearing at me. I told him that this was no way to treat customers and that I would never patron this place again. I was blown away at this interaction and will not be back as a result. If Local West wants to keep their customers, this guy should...
