A Taste of Italy — Restaurant in Clive

First time going today and was extremely pleased. I went in for the Chicago style beef which they were out of but I didn’t even care. I was met with warm, caring customer service from everyone right away. Very friendly and all smiles. I was directed to their menu so that my daughter and I could find something different. My daughter chose The Flood and I chose The Sonberg. Both sandwiches were explained and additions offered. We added provolone on The Flood and Italian dressing on The Sonberg. These two sandwiches were magnificent!!! Absolutely amazing!! I also ordered a side of each of their giardinera and OH MY WORD, they are exactly what giardinera should be. Very flavorful!! Being from Chicago I was craving an Italian Beef sandwich. I can make a trip to an Illinois grocery store to buy the prepackaged beef (which I do a couple of times a year, considering it's about 5 hours round trip to do so). But I wanted one from a restaurant (without driving to Chicago or a Chicago burb).

So on to the sandwich. It was okay. I can't complain. Not what I would get at a Portillos , Buena Beef, or one of the Chicago neighborhood fast food joint. But it was okay considering I was in the middle of Iowa.

The service. Well, it was okay at best. Seemed to be a bit on the slow side. But I'm going to guess they don't have the Italian Beef just sitting out waiting for someone to order it (especially considering that most Iowans doesn't seem to even know there is such a sandwich).

I would order again, I would just hope they allowed...

I have been driving by this place for years but I have always been curious about it! Well the wife and I decided to swing on in for lunch and WOW!! they didn’t disappoint! I got the house special Italian beef with sweet peppers and au jus and it was the best I’ve ever had! The beef was flavorful and juicy with each bite, the peppers were sweet and complemented the beef and cheese nicely and the bread was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside! The au jus was perfect for dipping! Please don’t sleep on this place like I did! The atmosphere was great and the employees were extremely friendly. 10/10 experience today!
