Not a fan of Mexican food, but my friends insisted that Mamacitas had the best breakfast burritos. The drive out to Clovis from Portales is not too bad - about 20 minutes and there is almost never traffic. The restaurant is located in a pretty small plaza with a good number of parking spots. There was a pretty good crowd inside the restaurant when we came on a late Saturday morning. Plenty of tables and chairs, and the service is super friendly and nice.
Complimentary chips and salsa. Chips are pretty regular - nothing too special about the tortillas, but they are fresh and crispy. Comes with both the green and red salsa dip. I can take spicy foods, but both of these were spicy! Really wakes you up.
Breakfast is served daily from 7-11 AM. We got there right at 11, but luckily they agreed to let us order off the breakfast menu still.
Chorizo y papa (Mexican sausage and potato): At $3.25, these breakfast burritos are a steal. Very big portion and the tortilla is stuffed with ingredients inside. They're served with 1 choice of salsa, but the salsas were a bit too spicy for me, so I just went without. I thought the overall taste of the burrito was pretty good. Potatoes were soft, and the Mexican sausage gave the burrito enough flavor. There's already some flavoring inside the burrito, so eating it without any salsa was fine. Portions were so big that I was able to eat the other half for dinner that night.
Chorizo y huevo (Mexican sausage and egg): This definitely seemed more breakfast-y with the egg instead of potato. I tried a bite from my friend and felt this one tasted better than the potato and sausage. The eggs give the burrito that fluffiness, and cooked with the sausage, there's enough flavor and texture that really fills your stomach as a result of a good breakfast meal. I would order this again if I ever returned.
They also sell a variety of drinks here. We saw the horchata and agua frescas after we paid, and the worker was nice enough to let us try the drinks. Not a big fan of horchata either, but the flavor was spot on. I could smell it from the cup. The lime agua fresca was amazing! I really wish I had gotten a cup.
tl;dr - A great place to get your fill of breakfast or Mexican comfort food if you're in the area. I'm not a big fan, but even I liked it! I feel like it can get crowded on Sunday afternoons after church,...
Read moreSo I normally don't post poor reviews, but this is the one I feel the public should know about. Also keep this in mind, it was a first impression but, we walked in and virtually nobody greeted us. We sat ourselfs briefly at a table not too far in because the place was PACKED for a Monday morning. We sat for a solid 10-15 hoping a waitress would greet us, instead a boy of around 8yo brought us menus and took our drink order. Thought it was cute honestly, this is going to be fun! Another 10 goes by, we get our waters, he's not old enough to carry coffee so we wait another 10 for a proper waitress to bring that plus tak our order It's been 30 minutes She takes our order and its out in decent speed, feeling a tad better about it at this point. My friend get his migas, the wife gets her chiliquiles, and I my huevos ranchers. Looks okay (btw the coffee would have made a barista gag) I go to take my first bite, I nice combination of egg, tortilla, sauce, and bean. Everything tastes like sink Everything The eggs seemed microwaved. Only one method of cooking an over easy egg leaves the egg in that shape with that rubberey consistency of the whites and tasting of being perfectly ruined. The sauce tasted like a drunk with a stroke just used dish water and hateful memories of green Chile as ingredients. The beans reminded me of canned cat food. The potatoes seemed "boiled" in oil, but not actually fried. Folks, I've hade bad meals, I've still cleaned my plate because it was "okay, and I need the energy" but...I couldn't continue this meal, let alone finish it. I left this resteraunt not hungry, no because I was full, but because I was put off my appetite. The food at mamacitas boasts no fun or authenticity, unless your abuela was a rotten cook and no fun. The food here was as old and miserable as the people who enjoy that food. Eating here is a penance, law breakers and wrong doers should be made to eat here 2 meals a day until a judges says not to. 3 meals a day would be inhumane. I'll end simple with this, this place is as bad with Mexican food (judging by my first and only foreseeable encounter) as Fat boys was with "bbq". The barbacoa was pot roast and I'll stand on that hill until I die. Don't waste your time with this place, not if you enjoy food. Service...
Read moreWent to new location for lunch and wasn't greeted, just told to sit anywhere and waited for an adult to wait on us but was meet with really young kids (9-12) who looked like they didn't want to be there. Mind you legal age to work is 14. Waiting a long time for the server to take our order and others also. One older lady just walked out. Overheard older blond lady threatening one of the kids she wasn't going to pay him and he should be grateful for work. It was extremely unprofessional. Hopefully she doesn't talk to the rest of her staff like that. The need a better seating system and training on customer service. Food was mediocre standard Mexican American food. Had Mamacita platter and the Chile rellenos was DISGUSTING. It should be crispy not mushy. Looked like a deep fried condom. Look elsewhere to eat, they need more staff who know what their doing and maybe less food on the menu for quality. Also speak to your kids better, working or not. You don't...
