Went first time to Denny's to try their Pot Roast. The sides and a cold brew coffee were fine. But clearly Denn's is having difficulty hiring enough staff. Besides big "Hiring" sign on the front door, people had to wait awhile even though most of the tables were empty because there wasn't staff available two seat and serve them.
I was lucky and got seated pretty quickly, but the server who clearly was trying hard, was challenged as a waiter. Afterwards I ask the manager's name which I think was Viera, in the hopes I could pass on my recommendations.
Let me describe what happened. My waiter came over quickly and asked if he could get me something to drink, or that's what I think he said, because he spoke very rapidly and he mumbled his words. I even asked him to slow down so I could understand him, but you just continue to speak in a rush of garbled mostly unintelligible words. So I ask for a cold brew coffee sweetened and I did understand he then said he would make it for me right away.
When it came back with the coffee I told him I was ready to order and ask for a pot roast dinner with with several side dishes. Off he went.
It came back in a reasonable amount of time with my pot roast plate, but he did something very odd. Instead of putting it on the table, he held it about my shoulder height just to my left and clearly expected me to take it from him. At another time I might have indicated he should just put it down rather than help me grab the plate in midair, but he had another plate for a nearby table and his left hand and he looked a little bit off balance. Besides switch I realized I would have a hard time communicating with him anyway. So I took the plate and set it down. A little later he said he would get me some water and when he did he held out both the glass of water and some straws for me to take from him.
I noticed shortly afterwards he did the same thing with some other diners, the adults but not the children. A little later, I caught his attention and asked him for some extra paper napkins and he brought those, and also held in mid-air little distance from the table clearly for me to take from him.
Let me say one thing about the food. Giving it is not a high-class restaurant, and I was glad to find a pot roast anywhere near my house, I was minimally satisfied. The side dishes for a reasonably done pot roast itself was tasty if not fantastic. But there was very little meat. I don't know if this is because of the portions they normally give out or if it was just what was available from that waiter that night.
Will it go again? Probably now that I've seen the incredible photos in their menu, I will return to try one of their breakfast dishes. Finding a good breakfast place in Maryland it's not easy. For those interested the best breakfast I found I've been at the Original Pancake House in Rockville. IHOP used to be good but now they're bacon is ridiculously thin.
However I will look for a way to recommend to the manager that they consider some extra training or assistance to the very challenged waiter. I hope you...
Read moreI don’t normally do reviews here on google, I normally do my video reviews on my YouTube channel (in which I did).
But I had to do a review here because hopefully someone sees it and make the necessary adjustments. So here was our experience, we got to Dennys at 11:38am on Monday, MLK DAY & was seated fairly quickly. However, it took the hostess to come and take our drink orders after about 20 minutes of being seated, not our actual waitress. We didn’t even know who our waitress was at this time. About 20 mins in, Two different parties of 4 or more was then seated in our area. We noticed a waitress, (again our waitress still has NOT come to our table to take our food orders), go take the orders of the 2 other parties of 4 or more that was seated after we was seated & then she proceeded to almost walk pass our table until she saw the look on my husband’s face, she then at that point decided to stop & take our food orders. There was no greeting, no apology just “I can take your order”. Now by this time, I am trying to hold my words because I am pissed off & hungry. So after taking our orders, she proceeded to say that she was going to put our food in first before the other 2 parties that came after us because it was “just 2 of us”. Now in my head, I’m like no, our orders should have been taken & placed with the kitchen before the other 2 parties orders were taken (but I didn’t say anything at that time.. I really gave her a lot of grace that day). But anywho, after almost an hour, we finally get our food at 12:36pm, and the food was cold. She even came over to ask how everything was going & we hadn’t even gotten our food yet. Excuse me, this is when I lost all my patience with her, like what do you mean how is everything going, WE DON’T HAVE OUR FOOD!!! We had been just sitting there sipping our drinks for almost an hour waiting for our food. She then proceeded to say that the kitchen was slow. Ok sure.. so finally, our food came & our food was cold. Now I am beyond pissed and I am trying not to show out up in Dennys. By this point we were both over it & ready to go. What really pissed me off was the lack of communication, her rudeness & how she was very attentive to her fellow Hispanic customers but left us hanging. Now I don’t like to throw any racial issues into it but we both definitely felt that she did not want to serve us. So Denny’s management in College Park, y’all need to talk to your staff because the next person may not handle the situation as calmly as we did. PLEASE...
Read moreI came to this fine establishment with my little honeysuckle on my arm. We were immediately seated (which was good as we were quite peckish) and before long we had beverages in front of us, and menus in our hands. Now, my little turtle dove is a silly vegetarian, and as such, must be much more selective in her food choices. Now, she is quite well-informed, so she'd heard through the grapevine of Denny's™ impeccable veggie burger. With a spring in her step, and zeal in her voice, she ordered said burger, only to find it was not an option. Still reeling, from the news, she instead went with the Belgian Waffle Slam™. Now again, my little cuddle bug does not consume animal flesh, nor is she a connoisseur of eggs. So, me in my infinite haggling wisdom, suggested she can the sides in favor of a second waffle. Our young ethnic waiter was unable to do this, so my little snuggle muffin instead went with hash browns. With this, our delightfully urban server took our menus and sauntered away. It was when we received our sustenance that the problems began. Both me and my lady received sub par hash browns. Rather than being browned as the name would suggest, they were completely burnt on their exterior, while soft and unappealing within. In addition, my companion's waffle was more like an awffle as it was not fluffy, and much too hard. The icing on the mediocre cake, was that our wonderfully diverse server was not good (I am not saying this because of his race. Both me and my schnookums are people of color, so we supported his plight, and hope he is able to make it in this world). That being said, he was slow to return with our check, and often took several minutes to send our complaints to the kitchen. Unsatisfied and dejected, we finally made for the exit, only to find that we'd been overcharged. As I watched my partner chew out the staff, I couldn't help but gaze in awe at her passion and beauty. If nothing else, I can say this Denny's™ brought us closer, and made me see the true value that lies within my lovely daffodil. After sorting that out, we exited, giving one last mournful look at the Taco Bell we could've eaten at. All in all, while I am a regular partaker in breakfast foods, and have no grudge with the Denny's™ franchise, this particular Denny's™ based in College Park, lead much to be desired and threatened to ruin an almost...
