Located right on the main strip of Route 1 in College Park, LaTaO Hotpot and Sushi offers an all-you-can-eat dining experience that is convenient for anyone in the area looking for a hearty meal. Situated on the bottom floor of an apartment complex, the location is a bit tricky to find, and parking can be a hassle. The parking garage is hidden behind the restaurant and is quite small, making it a challenge for those driving larger vehicles like SUVs or trucks. Despite the somewhat inconvenient parking, my group of 15+ people was seated immediately on a Friday night, and we were surprised to see that the restaurant was mostly empty. It took a little while for the waitstaff to get organized, but eventually, they took our drink and food orders. The restaurant features hotpot burners built into the tables, with booths that seat about 6-8 people. The tables offer two types of burners: small ones for individual hot pots or larger ones for communal meals. We opted for the communal pots, selecting two broths – one spicy and the other herbal bone broth. Both were decent, though nothing spectacular. The hotpot ingredients were plentiful and fresh, offering a variety of meats like beef, lamb, fish balls, and squid, as well as vegetables like enoki mushrooms and bokchoy. The portions were generous, and the ingredients were good quality for the price. A few members of our group added the $5 all-you-can-eat sushi option, and unfortunately, this was where the meal started to fall short. Some of the sushi, particularly the tuna and salmon nigiri, tasted off and had a strong, unpleasant odor. While no one got sick, we stopped eating the sushi immediately after noticing the smell. It was a disappointing part of the experience, especially considering the price. At $30+ per person, the hotpot experience is still a good value for those who want to enjoy an all-you-can-eat meal. The hotpot itself is enjoyable, and the variety of ingredients makes for a filling, customizable meal. However, unless you’re really craving sushi, I would recommend skipping the add-on to avoid the risk of getting subpar fish. Overall, LaTaO Hotpot and Sushi offers a solid hotpot experience, but the sushi leaves much to be desired. If you’re in the mood for all-you-can-eat hotpot and can overlook the sushi mishap, this place is worth checking out, just be cautious when opting for the sushi add-on.

Vast menu and sauce selections with an extensive sauce bar available to create your own sauces. We were a party of 7 with 3 generations, the youngest being 9 years of age. Every age range enjoyed their food and experience. There are too many menu options for anyone not to find what they are in the mood for, regardless of how diverse the tastes may be in your group. Restaurant, including restrooms was clean and tidy. Room temperature was pleasant. The music volume was loud enough that conversation from other groups was not heard but conversations at our own table were easily had. Will not hesitate to visit this establishment again. Service was top notch and is definitely a part of the 5 star rating. Our waiter was attentive without being over bearing. Sociable without being overly chatty or intrusive. He made eye contact with everyone, was extremely courteous and respectful. His manner of speaking to the children was upmost respectful treating them as young adults rather than speaking down to them as is often the case when going out. The same can be said in how he treated the elder in the group as well seeking her out at the end of the table more than once to ask her directly if there were any food options she would like brought out. This was noticed by the group and that respect shown was greatly appreciated. Our ticket stated our server was Ming and from all of us we would like a personal Thank-you sent to Ming for being part of creating a memorable evening for our family. He was unaware that this was a night for our family to both celebrate togetherness as well as mourn a separation and he truly made the experience exactly what it needed to be. Thank-you Ming, from all of us!

We tried the hot pot and ayce sushi option and the experience was absolutely horrible. First, sashimi was changed to dinner (wasn’t written on the menu). Not a big deal, anyways, after ordering a bunch of food, 30% of what we ordered did not arrive. Instead of letting us know what was not available when we ordered, we had to ask the server when the food didn’t show, who then had to check with the kitchen and then finally coming back to tell us it wasn’t available. Are you kidding me? This circling happened every time we ordered which was very frustrating, one good thing was we were the server’s only table the majority of the time we were there. The food that was available was not a problem except for the sushi hand rolls, omg the amount of rice was ridiculous, it just kept growing after each order. It also felt like the sushi chef was telling us to stop ordering sushi and was lazy to make the more complicated rolls we requested, and would just say “out of ingredient”. How unprepared or lazy are you guys? It’s a Monday and you guys just opened. The sushi arrives without wasabi and when we finally received a bowl of it, some other server took it away as they were clearing our dirty dishes for the next round without even checking to see if we were done with it. Verbal ordering all you can eat with a server is just inefficient especially if the server does not know what is available or not. There were not a self ordering menu where you can just write down what you want and hand it to the server nor an electronic ordering system at each table. Hopefully everyone gets their act together, yes you guys are newly opened but use some common sense.

LaTao Hot Pot is a new All-You-Can-Eat hot pot and sushi spot in College Park. For kids under 10, it's under $10 to eat lunch and under $15 to eat dinner. For adults, it's $17.99 to eat lunch and $23.99 to eat dinner.

They limit diners to only two hours, which is pretty reasonable. However, don't over order because you may end up being charged $13.99 for every pound of wasted food.

It was our first time at LaTao. Our server assumed that we knew how to eat hot pot but she should have given an overview to some first timers.

They have plenty of delicious broths to choose from - (1) Special Rib broth, (2) Szechuan Hot Spicy broth, (3) Tomato broth, (4) Mixed Mushroom Rib broth, (5) Rejuvenation Herb broth, (6) Tom Yum broth, (7) Chicken with Pork Intestine broth, (8) Tomato with Oxtail broth, and (9) Szechuan Spicy Butter broth.

For hotpot items, they had many unique items including Black Pork, Beef Stomach, Beef Tripe, Beef Throat, Pork Intestine, Duck Feet, Chicken Gizzard, Pig Brain, Pork Blood, Duck Blood, Pig Intestine, and Chicken Heart.

I enjoyed the Mixed Mushroom Rib Broth with Fish Tofu, Beef Ball, Fish Ball with Mushroom, Lobster Ball, Chinese Cabbage, Pumpkin, King Mushroom, Lotus, Chinese Yam, Fried Yam (Taro), Mung Bean Noodles, and several orders of Angus Steak.

My boyfriend enjoyed the Szechuan Hot Spicy Broth with Spicy Beef, Angus Steak, Broccoli, Tomato, and Ramen Noodles. It was nice that they asked the heat level preference. The broth was loaded countless of red chili peppers. With the broth, being red, it was hard to tell whether the red meats were cooked.

If they were to add more vegetables, I would suggest corn, japanese/korean yellow yam, and chrysanthemum greens (tong ho).

In the back of the restaurant, you can make your own dipping sauce. My dipping sauce consisted of soy sauce, garlic, cilantro, and green onion.

Unlike other hot pot restaurants in the area, I was surprised that they did not have a dessert bar that served Hong Kong Style...

So I’m going to be 💯 honest this was my first time eating at a hotpot place so I was excited mainly because of the good reviews so I called to make a reservation for dinner I asked the lady 3 times will the tip be included in my rate she ensure me that wouldn’t happen which was not true once i got to the restaurant .it took me 15 minutes to figure out what i wanted and how to order my food my server wasn’t any help at all so i went with the veggies broth and beef broth both looks like toilet water or a cloudy fish tank i also had shrimp ramen noodles scallions scallops and crab meat (which was imitation by the way )which all looked dried out and old and i couldn’t even finish it it was so tasteless and horrible no matter what sauce i add it still taste likes water. So i though adding sushi for the extra $5 was going to be a good deal but the taste was also meh and tasteless i had better sushi at Aldi. my whole party complain and we paid 35 person for 12 ppl so we’re done eating working our way to the karaoke room the floor was slippery wet they had a fan to dry it but that didn’t help maybe they should add carpet before they get a law suit or something so before we got comfortable they ask we put all of the charges on one bill mind you it 12 of us so that took all of 20 minutes getting cash app giving funds etc cutting into my karaoke’s time and they wouldn’t take any cash as a partial payment nothing either all cash or all on the card than they added a hefty gratuity with poor service and nasty food once again I was told they wouldn’t add gratuity. I’ll also add one of my friends had to leave early she left cash with my server which she kept and wasn’t applied to my bill For all those who said the food was good definitely lied and they also lied about the song selection for karaoke it was horrible and not user friendly at all took up most of our time trying to find music . I won’t be going back there hopefully the health department shut them down...
