What's the Buzz in College Station.
My ideal coffee cashier and barista is a tall bearded man in a flannel who hates me because I dared to order coffee and pull him away from his bean roaster. However, What's the Buzz coffee has opened my eyes to a new kind of barista to look out for. Moms. Who I assumed to be the owner of What's the Buzz is your perfect Dolly Parton southern mom. She talked hard core coffee jargon with me about her new Papua New Guinea beans, and as I left she said "have a safe trip honey"
Now, recently the "in" coffee's you'll see are single origin Ethiopians, that are light, bright, and sour. These are some of my favorites, and taste as if a man puts his head right by your ear and begins to scream. What I also tend to like are the classic Italian espressos which are perfectly crafted to feel like boxing match where you get punched in the face and then kissed on the forehead. Papua New Guinea is a nice variation from the ever popular South American beans and current trends. It is a light body with a robust and full flavor of just coffee. It tastes like a hard days work building a house, or a deeply impactful philosophical debate. Simple, strong, and good. It is almost comparable to the Columbian geishia, but that might be going a big too far.
I typically despise studying in coffee shops. They are often too cold temperature wise, with uncomfortable chairs, and not enough power outlets. Not to even mention that when you look up from your screen your options are to stare at concrete floor or white brick walls. However this place's theme is "eco-industrial" which has the look of washed out derelict, but overgrown with plants. They also have FREE REFILLS, what? free refills are you kidding me. Free refills of single origin stuff are you for real????? I'm going to die of a heart attack...
Read moreThe best way I can describe my experience with What's the Buzz is that my parents never make a trip to BCS with out stopping at WTB before they leave. Yes they could buy online, but it's the experience of going to the shop and talking to the roaster, in person about his product, that they would never miss when buying coffee. The owner is truly passionate and very knowledgeable about coffee and it is evident in his product. The coffee is fantastic and it is roasted fresh every day. You cannot get coffee better than that! The product is top quality, the owner is passionate, and the people are friendly. What else can you ask from a business? Support a great local business and stop giving money to large coffee companies who have an inferior product. Have some...
Read moreThis is the kind of local coffee place you want to say is your "to-go" spot. One of the best, if not the best coffee in college station. They say they specialize in espressos, but anything you order there will be good. I've had their Buzz Shaken Espresso drink, along with the Cold Brew and other recommendations, and everything has been delicious. The Cold Brew is certainly one of the strongest cold brews I've had. The vibe space is small, but cozy, and you feel like you're in a coffee factory. They also have the 12th man blends, which are their specialty blends, and I love it - I bought some ground for home. The prices are average, and the employees are so nice. Will definitely be adding it my routine...
