Winter 2024: It pains me to write this review. I loved Rio Mambo! It was one of my top 5 go-to places, but something has changed here. The food used to be stellar, like OMG let's go back, and now it's okay. Meats are a little dry and overdone when they used to be amazing, veggies are barely cooked, and tex mex options are mediocre. It seems like maybe they're rushing? Plates come out a little different everytime now. We've given up on hot queso here, and for what they charge just don't order it. Drinks are hit or miss, which makes me sad because they had my favorite margarita. They have renovated and management is very visible making sure things are taken care of, but the service isn't the issue and never was. Something changed in the kitchen in the last 6 months or so. We have been back 5 different times, and this weekend was likely our last. It's not bad, but with so much Mexican food around it has lost its edge sadly.
The service here is always solid and there's rarely a wait. This is a great place for a date or to meet up with a friend. You're not too packed in, and can talk. The food and drinks here are our favorite for Mexican food, especially grilled items like fajitas. Those grilled veggies are straight from the gods! The queso here is decent. I like the skinny margarita for its fresh lime juice, and their frozen drinks are good too. They offer a full bar, so you're not stuck with classic tex-mex themed drinks. They're not the most flexible if you want to make a substitution, but they are always upfront about what you're trying to sub and any charges that might come with it. Their classic tex-mex dishes are decent, but we go back over and over for their grilled entrees. Definitely one of our...
Read moreI was excited to try this Tex-Mex restaurant during my stay in the DFW, but I am highly disappointed. The waitress was very friendly but that was about the only thing pleasant about this place. Me and my daughter-in-law ordered frozen margaritas with no salt, when the drinks came out both had salt, waitress took it back and brought back a “new one” however it still tasted like salt was mixed in. Next we ordered the mixed fajita plate for two with the veggies grilled very very well, when it came out all the veggies were almost raw. Again the waitress tried to get new veggies, and she returned with a small cup of only green peppers, no onions nor red peppers. She than tried again only to return and apologize as the kitchen “just looked at her and laughed” those were her words by this time we were almost done with our meals. She advised she would let her manager know about our inconveniences, we were about to leave and manager never showed up, by this time we were just ready to get out. Than the manager (which she did not even introduced her self, we found out later from the waitress that she was the manager) showed up at our table with a small shot sized margarita asked “who said the margarita is too salty? Try this one it’s from a brand new batch” with a big attitude and her hand on her hip. After telling her it tasted the same, she rolled her eyes turned around and walked away. How can a manager react this way? She also never addressed the issue from our food nor did she offer an apology, what a shame. The waitress was shocked herself about the circumstances. Also place was too hot and restrooms...
Read more1035pm on a Friday night. I stop by after work for a quick cocktail and some chips and salsa to go. I enter to a brightly lit dining and bar area. No one at the hostess stand. I proceed to the bar, I ask "have you already closed?" The bartender looks for her phone / watch to say yes or no - the Chef comes around the corner and says "yes we are". REALLY ? Please update your closing time on your website so it's reflected correctly instead of the 11pm posted. That way, I and my friends can plan to just go somewhere else to begin with. Oh, and the poor folks that were served food and were finishing eating felt like they had to hurry and leave because they too were THINKING THEY HAD ANOTHER 15 - 20 MINUTES .... By the way, I and my family have been a patron of this establishment for 20 years and this is how you're going to start working. Close when you feel like it - when you still have patrons in the building, couples in the parking lot that left because they were told it was closed already and the bright lights came on and then myself with a friend arriving to have a beverage after the night we had. So glad my store didn't close down early - because our guest deserve great service from open to close, every day. As they should. Signed, Pissed...
