Ate here tonight. 3 different enchilada dishes, all phenomenal! Food here is ON. POINT. Each of the enchilada sauces (red, cheese, mole) were all lick the plate phenomenal. Chicken was great. I got a bit of missed bay leaf in my chicken- which is a good sign- I instantly recognized they do things from scratch the right way. Even the rice was fantastic. Beans a bit too watery but not a sin, great flavor and done from scratch.
They have a kids menu, which was great for our 2 little ones.
They're new, they're learning, so they'll eventually get it, but there's some rookie FOH mistakes- They don't do napkins, they do a roll of paper towels on the table and utensils in a paper bag. The paper towels lead to an awkward reaching across the table and trying to not spill drinks or get things in people's food. And all it takes is 1 former patron with greasy fingers to place their finger on the top of the roll and leave residual food on the whole roll. Gross. Use napkins. They're more familiar, they're sanitary, cheaper than paper towels and easier for your guests.
The utensils in a paper sleeve- It kind of cheapens what otherwise is a fantastic food experience. Eventually they'll realize after they bus a few thousand tables and lose a few hundred metal utensils that were hidden in what looks like trash, that the traditional napkin-wrapped utensils work well for a reason.
The menu- the physical hold-in-your-hand menu, needs redesigned. It's a bit chaotic and all over the place. It needs to be a bit more cohesive and easier to understand. I still didn't understand if I could order a chimichanga if it wasn't lunchtime. Most restaurants break things down into a chicken/beef/pork/seafood, even if it means repeating the same dish, because it's easier to comprehend, even if you're trying to step outside the texmex stereotype.
The above are nit-picks in what otherwise was a great dinner. GIVE THEM A CHANCE, THE FOOD IS GREAT! Still no liquor license as of 7/18/25, but looking forward to coming back when they get it! Judging by their Mocktails, they are going to have a 5-star drink menu. The other stuff, the FOH stuff, is minor, they'll figure it out.
Will be coming back for the food. Maybe...
Read moreI don’t like giving out bad reviews because of the decent people that work at and open restaurants. Also, it’s extremely difficult to keep your prices down and offer quality food while having quality staff after the complications from COVID set off a dirty bomb of bad service, inflation, and 70 other radioactive permutations that are now the restaurant industry,
The service was pretty good and the restaurant is decorated decently, albeit a small space.
The food was a culinary travesty.
Colorado Springs desperately needs new restaurants that are not poorly disguised iterations of Sysco and US foods distributors. This restaurant sadly falls into the category of many other Mexican kitchens: bland, dried-out, unimaginative Latin-American cuisine. My guest got cheese enchiladas which were more tortilla than anything else, with a blend of American and mild cheddar cheeses and a skimpy amount of sauce that made Taco Bell’s mild actually somewhat flavorful. I got three tacos, two of them were wrong. The Birria tasted like unfavorable Mexican pot roast that had dried out over night, and the other two tacos were perhaps more disappointing.
I wish the Cajun restaurant that was in this same location didn’t go belly up.
It’s hard to imagine this place will continue to exist longer than a few more months with Vaqueros, El Padrino and whatever that fresh Mexican grill is all less than a mile from this location. Don’t think ownership did their research opening up here and pretty sure quality may have tanked since the other reviewers.
Growing up in a large city, I’ve been disappointed by the chain-restaurant metropolis or copy cat culinary franchise Colorado Springs is, especially the farther North and East you go.
People need to be more honest about their food experiences, and if all you’ve ever eaten is Chilis and Applebees, you might want to keep your opinion to yourself because the 4.8 star rating for this place just...
Read moreIf you are looking for a new restaurant that serves up some good Mexican food on the north end of Colorado Springs, Mezcalita is worth the trip.
The decor and atmosphere of the restaurant is beautifully put together. The bar is enormous with an abundance of TVs. I appreciated the cleanliness as well.
The food truly hit the spot. We started by trying the Elote and the Spicy Garlic Shrimp. Both were a great way to start off. Some tables around us were enjoying the chips and queso, which also looked really nice.
For the main course we had the Pork Chop with Pineapple Habanero sauce, and the Ribeye with Chimichurri. Both were perfectly cooked and packed with flavor. The Ribeye stole it for me though just because of how tender and juicy it was. The kids had the Cheeseburger and the Chicken Strips which they both enjoyed.
For desert, the kids tried the Chocolate Abuelita which was a hot chocolate with a graham cracker and Nutella rim. We tried the Concha Relleno which was a sweet bread warmed up and stuffed with Nutella and strawberries. The strawberries were fresh and was the perfect way to finish off the meal.
For drinks we enjoyed some Mexican Coca-Cola and Squirt.
Will definitely be returning. Thanks for...
