The good: Ivywild overall is a great place to go meet for drinks. I remember it as a school, so it's fun to see the transformation. The Principal's Office in particular is a beautiful little restaurant/bar. The decor is nice, it's clean, and they make some great drinks. I go for the coffee, which is Loyal Coffee's beans, roasted right downstairs.
The not-so-good: the music is too loud and the bartenders are...cold?? Smug? I'm having a hard time coming up with the right word so I'll explain. First, I may be showing my age a little here, but if I wanted to go to a Chainsmokers concert, I would have. When you're trying to talk to someone and you have to yell over the music, it gets annoying. I've found that those of us in our mid-30s like to talk with friends while music plays in the background. While those in their mid-20s like to get together and then individually stare at their phones š. So with that said, I can see why loud music isn't an issue for Ivywild's target market. As for the bartenders: they weren't rude by any means, but there was this odd "avoidance" when I ordered. I was there in the middle of the day with my girls. One of my daughters chose a lemonade to drink so I asked the bartender if he could make it a little sweeter than usual (for a kid.) Without acknowledging me or making eye contact with me he grabbed the simple syrup and added some to her sparkling lemonade. So in the end, he did his job. I paid and tipped as usual; not a huge deal. I just don't think its that hard to nod your head, or smile, or say "sure thing." Then again, maybe he is also tired of yelling over the music so he just takes a more mute-approach to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreSuch a nice treat. The food was great. I ordered an Greek sandwich with sweet potato fries. So good that I started eating before I remembered to take a picture. My partner ordered tortilla soup and was satisfied.
Some things to know... parking is around the entire building. If you park in back, there is an entrance there so you don't have to walk all the way around. You can enter thru the main school doors (at front) or the coffee shop doors to the side. Seating indoor and outdoor (for nice Colorado days). You seat yourself but go to the bakery/coffee shop counter to place your order. Once it is ready, it will be brought to you. Buss your own table; there is a water station where you get glasses and a carafe/bottle of water.
The bathrooms are so awesome with all of the school art, however I wonder why some things are misspelled. Anyhoo I would definitely come back for a night out with friends or date night for "detention" hour. The atmosphere is very casual whether for groups, couples...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI've been going to principal's office regularly over the past three years that I've lived here. Since I'm a teacher, it was a "must" when I first moved, and it has been a favorite ever since. They have amazing cocktails - they are a bit pricey, but honestly worth it. The bartenders are artists, and you can taste the deliberate perfection that they put into every cocktail. They also do have some specials for happy hour if you head over right when school lets out!
Of course, I love the educational theme and decor that comes with all of the places at IvyWild. It is full of reminiscent touches of the days it used to be a school. Just like the other places in this old school, you can also order food that is absolutely delicious. I was crushed when they stopped offering fried pickles, but they so have other tasty offerings. Their salads are always refreshing and tasty. I highly recommend that you pay them a visit - the most positive trip to the Principal's Office since you...
