Best chinese food and service around!!! I recently came to the springs to be with my girlfriend and asked her plus other people who have lived here awhile about where a good chinese restaurant is. Everyone said there are no good places to eat chinese food. I decided to search for one and ran across Shangrila. The reviews spoke highly of this place so we went there for lunch on Friday, 10 June 2016 to try it out. I was impressed the minute I stepped inside and was greeted by the owner. He was very friendly and appeared to be running a nice establishment from the first appearance! A waiter promptly greeted me and seated me, per my preference, while I waitd on my gf. I ordered the sweet and sour chicken, per another reviewer's advice. She ordered the garlic chicken. Our food was delivered to us in no time, and was a generous size portion. The taste was delicious and the service was outstanding!!! I am a 100% disabled vet from Oklahoma so I carry my tax exemption card everywhere I go. I asked the waiter about a military discount, and the tax exemption. He quickly responded yes for military discount, but was unsure of tax exemption. The owner came to our table and said, "I'm sorry sir but I've never heard of this exemption for individuals before, but I will honor that for you today, plus will find out more about it so I can honor other future patrons requests for this". He immediately took the tax plus discount off, and said "thank you very much for eating with us. I hope you are satisfied and will come back". I told him I was impressed with his choices of meal selections, the quality taste and portions served, the prices being low, and the outstanding service his staff provides to all patrons!!! I told him I would give his establishment a true excellent rating, and will definitely be back!!! He smiled and said thank...
Read morePer Christmas tradition my family ventured out for a dinner of Chinese food. Being relatively new to the area and having heard good things about Shanghai-La we wanted to try them out.
As we had a modestly large party (10 including 3 kids) we called ahead and made sure they had room for us (which they assured us that they did). Showed up at 4:30 as to respect they’re stated 6:30 closing time and we’re seated after about ten minutes (no biggie).
Once seated we realized there were many frustrated tables waiting for food, checks, water, whatever....but we were in a good mood and willing to wait.
After about 30 minutes we were able to order drinks and apps (which we ordered two of each) which came out about 30 minutes later.
Then we sat.
And sat.
And sat.
And sat.
Watched other tables get their food and leave.
Watched new tables come, get their food and leave.
And we’re then told our order get started by the kitchen in ten minutes.
And then 30 minutes later we were told our order would probably start in 10 minutes.
At about 7:00 we asked the waitress what was happening and she said she didn’t know but “if we had suggestions, she’d listen.” Which was awesome.
Bottom line this would have been a $300 tab plus a pretty massive tip on a holiday. The service was pathetic. The management was worse. I don’t know if the kitchen didn’t like our waitress (because she excused her lack of performance on the fact that her other tables were not getting food either) or if she was just incompetent (although she said she’d been there for four years).
I’m a pretty loyal customer to the places that earn my business and this place will lose what is likely $1000.00 in businesses from me a year. Don’t care what the...
Read moreMix reviews. It is clearly better than Fuji Bistro however our second time ordering here was a bad experience. There online menu prices have only recently been updated so don’t be surprised if you are charged extra if you order online.
First time eating at the Union location was amazing. Second time ordering it was a disaster, rice was way over cooked/burned and they screwed up an order. This is when we noticed pricing variations from their online versus their over the phone/restaurant. In fairness they did offer to replace the missing item free of charge on the next order but it didn’t make up for the nearly $100 in the other food that was inedible. Third time ordering was just ok and clearly better than Fuji Bistro. It just tastes like they use fresher ingredients with the veggies having a nice color and crunch.
We recently ordered from their new location and it was horrible, it looks like they reused the same meat for different dishes and that is not ok. On top of this, it had zero flavor. Their veggies was mushy and it didn’t look anything near like the Union location to include skipping a few items. The rice was classic though and reminded me of the cheap rice I use to get at the East coast however, the meat should be the star of the food. While I like that style of rice it was cheaper in the east coast. Avoid there new location until they get their act together.
Considering Shanghai-La at Union is probably the best Chinese Colorado Springs we tasted, we will stick to the Union location unless someone can offer advice/recommendations on a...
