Hands down the best Thai food I've ever had.
Let's just say this out front: if you like flavorful, authentic Thai, then this place is the bees knees. It's awesome.
Now let's get picky (because I want this place to do great so I can eat there forever until I die):
Chicken Satay: Wonderful spices and coconut flavor, however the chicken servings were the thinnest and skinniest I've had. Satays should be like paddles, not sticks of meat! However, the peanut dipping sauce and the sweet cucumber salad were wonderful. Instead of a runny peanut sauce they served a chunky, thick sauce with lots of spices and heartiness. We ran out of chicken fast, but I ate the peanut sauce by the spoonful!
Shrimp Dumplings: Delicate, tiny dumplings exploded with tender shrimp flavor, and were topped with a delightful caramelized sweet onion. however, for the price 6 or 8 would have been worth it. 4 left me disappointed, but the taste experience was tremendous.
Pad Thai: Great heat (we ordered everything "hot", which for the first time was actually hot at a Thai place. Normally we have to order things "Thai hot" to be happy). However, the sauce was thinner than I like and the flavor was a little light. But thanks to the additional fish sauce I added (they give you an amazing spice/sauce rack w/ dinner) the pad Thai became perfect.
The best part: The Massaman (or Mus-Sa_Muhn on their menu) Curry. Fabulous, spicy flavor with everything including the kitchen sink. Potatoes, beef, onion, green onion, carrots... spicy, sweet, hearty, HOT. It was hands down the best curry I've had, Indian or Thai!
The food might be amazing, but our All-American and practically silent, know-nothing waiter was a drain. We had lots of questions about the menu and he couldn't answer any of them. I think they wanted a familiar, white bread (non-ethnic) face for white bread (non-ethnic) Colorado Springs, but when you have a menu with esoteric terms and names of foods, you need to have staff that can tell people what's in a dish. I ordered a Thai Tea and loved it, so when I asked him "Wow, what is this?" he said, "Thai Tea". "I know it's Thai Tea: what's in it?" "Uhhhhhhhh, spices and coconut milk?" he said.
Jeepers.
One last secret for Thai food lovers: they don't have any dishes featuring shrimp paste (sad), but the kitchen staff has a lot on hand for their personal meals, so if you ask real nice they'll share that delicacy with you! And then they all stand around and watch you take the first bite becuase they can't believe you're actually eating/enjoying shrimp paste.
Bottom Line: Go for it. The food is amazing, so grin and bear the wait-staff, and order anything and everything. They have 5 levels of heat and "hot" (4) was plenty good. I like burn-your-face-off hot, so next time I'm ordering "Thai hot" (5). Stay tuned for that little...
Read moreI’ve had the pleasure of dining at Lanna Thai three times now, and each visit has left me craving more. Every time, I find myself ordering the Tom Kha soup, and I have to say, it was so delicious the first time that I simply can’t resist getting it again. The balance of flavors in this coconut milk-based soup is remarkable, with just the right amount of spice and a rich creaminess that warms the soul. It’s a dish that I keep coming back for, but I’m determined to venture out and try some other offerings on the menu soon!
My wife, on the other hand, loves to explore different meals during our visits, and she has yet to be disappointed. Each dish she orders has been bursting with authentic flavors, beautifully presented, and cooked to perfection. Whether she opts for the Pad Thai, the Green Curry, or any of the daily specials, she always raves about how fresh and satisfying each meal is.
What truly enhances the dining experience at Lanna Thai is the owner, who is originally from Thailand. She is not only passionate about her food but also incredibly friendly and engaging. We enjoy chatting with her while waiting for our meals, as she often shares stories about the dishes and her culture, adding a personal touch to our visits. It’s clear that she takes pride in what she serves, and her enthusiasm for Thai cuisine is infectious.
Overall, Lanna Thai has quickly become one of our favorite spots. While I’m currently hooked on the Tom Kha, I look forward to expanding my palate and discovering new favorites alongside my wife. If you’re in the mood for authentic Thai food in a welcoming atmosphere, I highly recommend stopping by Lanna Thai—you won’t be...
Read moreBEWARE!!! Worst service I've ever had; mediocre food, too much cost for very little reward, and poisoned my whole family!!!
I have had Thai food all over the world, and I put myself through flight school working in restaurants; this is the first negative review I have ever written!
My family has a hereditary affliction that makes us all celiac. We have been perfecting gluten free diets to the point where we are all painfully aware when we inadvertently ingest gluten. Unfortunately this was the case as we found out after eating an entire meal, you have to order gluten free soy sauce ahead of time even though it's not listed as an ingredient. The to go order had already been prepared and we paid 47.15$ for food three meals that were toxic to us. No amends had been offered despite getting the meal wrong on top of it. Pad Thai with chicken and shrimp came solely with tofu, and was mediocre at best. Regretfully I learned the hard way that the food and service here fall short of your hard earned money. There are better Thai restaurants here in the springs, I encourage you to try NaRai Thai and feel that you have made a good investment instead of feeling ripped off.
And if you do require gluten free food, do not trust this food. Even remade and called gf made me ill, and we were required to pay for both meals. We were treated with disgust, and belittled and the last words spoken to me where, "we don't need your...
