The restaurant staff is INCREDIBLY rude. The entire weekend, people had complaints to me about how rude or snide the staff was, and very slow. I brought it up with the hotel manager, who had me talk to the restaurant manager. It was comical how little he cared. I was trying to have a quiet & normal conversation with him, assuming there was just a misunderstanding. He didn't offer any apology or way to compensate the guests who were mistreated, which was a huge embarrassment to us. You can tell he wouldn't thrive as a restaurant manager in the real world, since he solely depends on people eating there by default since they are staying in the hotel.
I wasn't expecting special treatment at all with our hotel block, just basic human decency. My husband was literally barked at on Sunday when he asked for a coffee, apparently the machine was being cleaned (how could you possibly plan to clean a coffee machine at 9AM on Sunday and not any other time)? My father in law was told there was no breakfast seating, even though no one was waiting and we physically saw several open tables in front of us. My dad was given dirty looks several times during his breakfast when he asked for basic things (hot sauce, coffee). A group of 14 had lunch on Saturday and the food came out super slow & burned, no apology and no replacement. Several people ordered beers, which were never to be seen. My husband ordered a scotch after waiting at the bar for 20 minutes, the bartender finally acknowledged him and looked less than happy to have to work.
The staff is SO slow, and the manager blamed everything on them being overwhelmed. Well you're a restaurant, so you should be prepared for customers. We had our block over a year ago, and finalized our count over a month ago. If having customers stressed out the restaurant, they should have planned to staff more. It wouldn't have been that bad if they were slow but nice & apologetic, but the mix of slow and poor attitudes was...
Read moreWe came in for lunch on Saturday using a Groupon. The server was very nice and attentive. We were promptly seated as there weren't many diners.
Our Groupon was $30 worth of food for lunch, not to be applied to alcohol. I thought it might be challenge to spend that much on lunch alone. Turns out the prices are a little high for what you get, so it was not a challenge after all. I ordered a cup of soup of the day which was potato and cheese. It had decent flavor but I think it came from a can.
For lunch I ordered the Margarita Flat Bread pizza. It was awful. The bread was hard, the cheese wasn't completely melted and there was no flavor. I thought Margarita should have basil, but not on this one unless they just forgot it. I ate one piece and had no desire to eat any more. My man ordered the Angus Burger. He said it was just ok. He said it was definitely frozen patty for the burger and the fries were thin, frozen fries, nothing special. So needless to say we don't have any...
Read moreMy wife and I have had dinner at Sonomaz several times and never had a bad experience. I believe the majority of negative reviews are from the lunch crowd. We were seated quickly and had a wonderful meal. Its nice to be in the suburbs and actually have a restaurant that serves flights of wines. I had the "Red Varietals" and my wife had the "Cabernets" and both were very good. We split a number of items including the caprese salad which I didn't think would be very good this time of year but was excellent. I think Sonomaz is overlooked because its located on the ground floor of the Marriott but I truly believe its some of the best food in the suburbs. Sure you can drive 30 minutes downtown to some of the hip and more well known places but give Sonomaz a try. I don't think...
