Gumby's Pizza - Columbia, MO
I was working in Columbia last week when a few coworkers suggested we stop by Gumby's Pizza for lunch. Located downtown near the Mizzou campus, Gumby's is a well-known local spot that's popular with students and residents alike. As with most downtown areas, parking can be a bit of a challenge, so plan accordingly.
At first glance, the restaurant looks small from the outside, but once you step inside, you'll find it surprisingly spacious. When you walk in, you're greeted by specials posted throughout the entrance area. We arrived right around noon and, to our surprise, we were the only group dining at that time.
Orders are placed at the counter, where we were helped by a woman who was absolutely fantastic--friendly, patient, and accommodating, especially considering that several people in our group were visiting for the first time. After ordering, you can choose to sit at a booth, high-top table, or at the bar. The atmosphere is casual and inviting, with TVs throughout, a music machine, and even a pool table for entertainment. Since I'm currently following a fasting diet and skip breakfast and lunch, I ordered my meal to go so I could enjoy it for dinner. Having had plenty of pizza the night before at Shakespeare's, I decided to switch things up. I went with a pound of boneless wings--half buffalo, half mango habanero--and added a side of beef toasted ravioli. One of our local coworkers also ordered the XL cheese bread for the table, and I can confidently say, based on both this visit and past experiences, it's easily in my top three for cheese bread anywhere. Everyone in our group was happy with their food, from the pizzas to the other menu items.
Overall, Gumby's is a spot l'll continue to visit whenever I'm in Columbia. Great service, solid food, and a laid-back vibe make it a go-to for a casual...
Read moreI love gumby's and it's always been our go-to pizza place. But after tonight, we will no longer be giving them our business again. We ordered a pre-made pizza without the meat option as me and my boyfriend have been vegetarian for a long time and always order this pizza.. The website was down so we called to have it delivered. We got it and i quickly noticed it had bacon. I thought maybe it would be fine if we just pick it off as we are not the type of people who like to call and complain if we don't have to, but after trying to pick it off i took 2 bites and the bacon flavor was strong and cooked into the pizza so much and it was also impossible to pick all the bacon out, we just couldn't eat it. We decided to call and was told by the manager at the downtown location that we would have to send the pizza back with the delivery driver if we wanted them to make us a new pizza, which wasn't a problem until we told her that we did take a couple bites and attempted to pick off the meat when she then proceeded to tell us they could only make us a smaller size if that was the case and we were not offered a refund as a option...i don't understand why i should have to get a smaller size pizza because i was misheard over the phone and attempted to let it go. They continued to argue with us about our receipt only saying that we asked for no pepperoni and that it didn't say no bacon which we certainly did over the phone since we are on a dietary restriction and have been for a long time. The person taking our order apparently didn't hear us. No problem right? We understand mistakes happen and we simply just wanted that mistake corrected, but now our dinner is ruined. The way gumby's handled this felt very disrespectful and very disappointing considering we are big fans of the pizza and frequent customers, that will...
Read moreCalled in at about 9 on a Sunday night. Order taker wash short and rude. I asked if there were any specials his response was no. I ordered my stuff; med pepperoni pie, salad and ravioli. Told me it would be $24.xx; I asked how it could be that much... He just rambled off the prices. I guess I had an old menu, either way I was still ordering. He asked me for my address, I told him the name of the hospital. He said ok. Said it would be 45 mins or maybe even an hour. At about an hour and 10 mins I called and asked where it was. He responded we are busy and its on its way. Driver calls 10 mins later and says he can't find me. He was at the wrong hospital, order taker put I wrong address. Called back to talk to the order taker, someone else answered the phone. Told her I was unimpressed, she said they were busy with other orders. I asked her if I was expected to pay for my food (that was finally delivered about 1:40 mins after I ordered it) because it would be cold. She assured me that they had pushed back orders and it would not be cold... Guess what... It was... I asked to speak with the manager she said she was... I gave up and waited for my cold pizza. Don't make the same mistake I did, way too many good pizza places in Columbia to order here again. The salad was good though! Delivery driver gets my complements; he literally ran to me with my stuff and away trying to catch up. He was apologetic and...
