So, we moved up to Spring Hill last Easter from Chattanooga. We've been craving BBQ since then as well. My mother in law sent me a writeup saying how JJ's is some awesome bbq..
So, a few monhs go by and I drive by JJ's , but I'm in a hurry so wait. Well, week before last I believe, I pulled in and ordered a family pack from my car as they don't do call ins... understand, I guess I could have called and ask about their products before blindly ordering. Maybe the local yocals know what they want . Makes sense.
So, a family pack of 4 is rather scandalous as far as price. As far as the food check it out:
Pork- lots of fat and seemed over handled or overcooked. Rather mushy
Slaw- finely chopped and rather bland and generic
Beans- again taste like can beans with spices added. Maybe not. The lack of bell peppers, onion , or pork turned us away.
No pickle! Had to ask myself if I was on the West coast lol. BBQ on the coast results in no pickle also.
Ultimately, some may love it , but it was comparable to gas station bbq if I must .
Next time anyone reading this is in Chattanooga TN... Google PURPLE DASIY BBQ ( St. Elmo) or better yet Bama Boys BBQ atop Sand Mtn in Henegar, AL. Both these places charge around $20-25 for a family of 4 . Both produce some of the best food period. Plenty others in Chatt-town but these have been our favorite since they opened.
Seems like Nashville has the chicken scene covered but BBQ has been impossible. Even tried the expensive place in Spring Hill. Truthfully, we're learning how to do without until we go back to Chattanooga every 3 or 4 weeks. Sad, because we used to get to devour BBQ once a week.
Wish JJ's was better. Can't pay double for what they offer tho. Seeing reviews saying their the best bang for the buck and how great UT tastes... ... ... We are all different but I invite you to explore the world outside of Columbia. Imagine growing up next to a water treatment facility or a chicken farm. Outsiders would be offended by the odors. Yet, you would happily refer to it as...
Read moreThis is the best BBQ for MILES. I've gone here more times than I can count over the years and have only had 1 time that I recall that everything wasn't perfect, but the meat is always juicy, tender, and so flavorful. Their white sauce is just like the white sauce from Alabama and it's to die for on your bbq.
September 17, 2017, my family came from out of state to take me and my boyfriend of 7 years out to eat for his birthday. He has ciliacs and is allergic to fish oil. Normally, we go to JJ's for BBQ and my boyfriend is a meat and potatoes kind of guy, but he wanted to change it up, so we went to a very popular BBQ chain out of Nashville, in Franklin. It would take too long for me to explain what happened but the point is that my boyfriend had a terrible week and that day just made everything worse (it really was terrible).
He was so disappointed. He thought that would be the one thing he could enjoy regarding his birthday and that didn't happen. So last night on the 18th, I called JJ's 30 minutes before they closed because he doesn't get off work until late. I told them the short version and asked for them to make them the potato he should've gotten and they DELIVERED. They even left him a happy birthday note! When he came home and saw the potato (and my other gifts to him), he was so humbled and happy. That smile was worth every penny.
We were so happy with how awesome this place is that I called today on the 19th to speak to the owner and let her know what happened. Her staff last night was superb and we learned our lesson. We're never going to another BBQ place again, so I hope JJ's stays around forever! ...
Read more(Old post - see update below). Excellent food. We went there on a whim and were pleasantly surprised. We will be back.Got the turkey and the pork. It was awesome. The vegetables were excellent. Most places, veggie sides are average when the barbecue is great. Not here. I didn’t really love the desserts, but that’s not why I went! I will be back.
I am updating this review as of August 2018. We just left JJs. Very disappointed. Inside it was too cold to sit. I am very hot natured a person and it was still too cold for me. It’s beautiful outside so we decided on patio dining. We wiped the ants off of our table and then came the flies . They were divebombing us. And then the larger ants showed up. We went inside and got to go containers for food. I know they saw us swatting flies and wiping off bugs. It would’ve been nice for someone to ask a question like, can I help you? Is there a problem? I understand you can’t control bugs sometimes, but this is ridiculous. a good rinse of the patio tables would be good. To top that off, we didn’t get our cornbread. I’m not going back for it. I may not go...
