Edit: I have been coming back to Menkoi for several years now - it is easly one of my favorite spots in the city and the ONLY place for really, really good, really authentic Ramen in the state! The staff is also very friendly and has talked me into trying several different options - all of which I have loved! The onigiri (rice ball) is awesome and they have great dumplings - perfect sides to their soup (heck, you can even splash down a couple if you want to add even more heft to your bowl)! It is an unassuming shop - akin to something you'd find in New York more than the Carolinas, but I can't imagine the city without it! Do not sleep on this place. It's great, even in Summer and a MUST stop when it gets cold! Menkoi is one of the top soup spots in Columbia! In winter, if you need to warm up, their spicy soup is to die for! It's rich without being too filling! The pork is a top choice and flavors their soup to perfection - certainly an unbeatable broth! They also have amazing sides - the salmon rice ball is fantastic and a nice treat! I'd also suggest trying the miso and chicken flavored bowls - they're surprisingly unique and a pleasure on a cold day!

We came here for lunch and got a good parking spot in front of the restaurant. The inside is pretty modest and pretty basic. We ordered at counter upon entering and they suggested for costumer to order first before choose a table. We ordered edamame as an appetizer and 3 ramen bowls. We ordered spicy ramen, miso ramen, and chicken ramen. The condiments and drinks are on the side of the restaurant and easy to access. The portion of the ramen was pretty big and my kids can definitely shared a bowl of ramen. The broth was pretty flavorful and spicy ramen is American spicy. It's a good spot for ramen in downtown Columbia, SC. I would come back and eat here again if I stop by in Columbia, SC.

Overall: Quaint little ramen spot with solid ramen options. This area suits the college student on a budget as they focus on giving large portions of ramen for cheaper prices. Food: I bought the Tonkotsu Ramen along with salmon onigiri. The ramen noodles itself were okay as they were overcooked along with some complexity of the broth flavor. The pork was gray and the egg was overdone. The onigiri is not made in house. Presentation wise, the noodles and broth were not separated in packaging, causing the food to overcook. Service: N/A Atmosphere: Busy yet quaint. Clean establishment and fun atmosphere. Rating: 3.2 out of 5

I’ve never had an issue at this location until today. My husband and I are in here atleast once a week for lunch if not more and today has been a show of the character in this place. My husbands food had hair in it. When we called back up to inform them, we were told that we needed to email the owner to see if his food could be replaced. What kind of establishment does that? When there is hair in somebody’s food that is a hazard. She also told him that she was to busy to talk to him about this over the phone, that when he came back into the store they could finish the conversation. When he took the food back and asked for a way to contact the owner, the same woman told him that she cannot give that information out but that she’s the owners daughter in law. They replaced his food at least so I can’t complain about that, but they act as if you’re lying about it. Why would I bring 98% of my food back if I was lying. I wasn’t asking for my money back, I just wanted his food replaced. Nobody behind the counter today were wearing hair nets nor hats to keep the hair at bay. Which is an FDA requirement. As I stated before, we’ve always had nothing but good experiences here, half the time the workers at the front counter know my husband and as soon as he walks in the door they have the food ready. But I can say after the experience of the “daughter in law” we probably won’t be...

The first visit was OUTSTANDING. The food came out hot, fresh and tasty just like we like it. Also our order came out just the way we gave it to her. This was the first time we have ever visited this place. Now on our second visit was NOT SO GOOD. There were different people except for the young guy putting the food together. The girl on the register just NOT get our order correct. We repeated back to her 3 times and she called our order back to us twice and still screwed it up. They opened up at 5:00 p.m. and still did not have everything in order. We had to request sweet tea 3 times, my soup did not have Chicken after requesting that both orders had Chicken and Pork. After letting her know she tried to turn it around and said y'all wanted a #4 well we never placed our order under a number, we distinctively said (2) spicey Chicken & Pork with everything BUT the fish and (2) Shrimp Dumplings and (2) fountain drinks. Now how hard was THAT. Then after not putting the chicken in my wife's bowl she brings cold chicken on a plate to add to her bowl at least she could of warmed the Chicken up (REALLY).. SHM 2nd time and last time. Talking about Lightning Striking In The Same Place Twice? Not here unless they bring back the first crew that made our food so professional. It's just a Noodle Bar come on. Thanks,...

Great place to eat as long as you tip! Me and my family ate here three days in a row. We ordered the same items for each day (vegetable ramen with non-meat stock). I placed the order in store and tipped them on the receipt the first two days, before they prepared our meal. The third day I was in a rush and placed our order online but the online service wouldn't allow me to tip. When I arrived, I waited until my food was ready, before I added a tip. I asked the young lady at the register about tipping them on the receipt. She told me I wouldn't be able to leave a tip unless I purchased an additional item in store. I agreed to do so and noticed a strange interaction between she and another employee over the matter. I bought a drink for $3 and left a $3 tip. Once I was home, me and my family dug in. Me and my wife agreed that the ramen that night wasn't nearly as delicious as it was the previous days. Following the meal my wife and my son had horrible discomfort and flatulence, a reaction they did not have the previous days. My wife and I believe that we were either given food that had gone bad or food that had been tampered with because they believed they weren't going to receive a tip. So when eating here the best way to stay healthy and safe is...
