I ate a delicious supper recently 3-16-2023] at bb.q chicken [Korean Fried Chicken] at 17 E. Lane Ave. in the "University District" neighborhood of Columbus.
I am glad that I had finally been able to eat there recently after having waited for several months for them to open.
My food choice for my first visit to bb.q chicken had been "Galbi" [chicken.
The choices in terms of chicken [there are 13 different flavors from which to choose] had been "whole," "wings," or "boneless"; I chose "boneless" because "boneless" is typically easier to eat.
While waiting for my order to be prepared, I enjoyed watching the extremely efficient staff at bb.q chicken moving around the restaurant while they had been serving the many customers who had been coming and going.
The menu [that had been posted on the wall behind the ordering counter] includes several very interesting "sides," including "Sweet Potato Fries," "Fried Dumplings," and "Cheesling Fries"; I plan to return on a different day so that I will be able to order and eat some of those sides.
While I had greatly appreciated the metal fork that I had been served, a metal "dinner knife" would also have been helpful so that I would have been able to more easily cut my food into bite-size pieces.
If you are in the University District and you are looking for some delicious Korean fried chicken, I recommend...
Read moreI’ve eaten Korean fried chicken from two other places before, one chain and one family restaurant, but this was my first time eating at bb.q chicken, and let me tell you- it ROCKS! I’m a huge K-drama fan and had seen the restaurant featured in dramas for years, drooling when I watched the characters eating and wishing I could crawl into the tv and join them, lol! It was all I imagined and more!! The staff at this East Lane Ave. location in Columbus was amazing, too. I was on a road trip last weekend from New York to Tennessee and wasn’t familiar with the area, and the employee taking my phone order offered to bring it to the curb for me when I drove up so I wouldn’t have to worry about parking! She wanted my first bb.q chicken experience to be great, and went above and beyond to make it happen. The chicken was still hot, crispy and delicious 20 minutes later when I got to my hotel, too. If it’s your first time, I highly recommend the half-and-half whole chicken, with half original and half “secret sauce.” The secret sauce has just enough heat to give a multi-dimensional flavor without burning your tongue, thick and sweet. Yum! Try this place- great food and...
Read moreI had brought back my Secret Sauce Chicken and Cheeseling Fries (not for the first time either) because there was literally no Secret Sauce on the chicken and no cheese on the fries. The cook proceeds to argue with our cashier right in front of me and my girlfriend that he had put the adequate amount. It was so bad that even our cashier straight up acknowledged that we were in the right and tried to convince the cook for us. It was genuinely shocking as we were simply asking to rectify what was a mistake, and instead were slapped in the face with this. We are really angry about this, and we don't plan on eating here ever again. I have told all my friends from Ohio State not to give bb.q chicken their business ever again and go somewhere better like CM Chicken.
We have been ordering from here since they first opened, and this is not the first time something like this has happened. We've contacted corporate about this twice and they sent us two copy-pasted word for word generic "staff will be trained better" messages. We wanted a refund for how badly this was mishandled and that was...
