The Big Bar on 2 is the bar and dining section of the Hyatt Regency hotel. It is conveniently positioned right in the middle of the hotel by the escalators and several steps away from the ballroom areas. The dining section itself has about maybe 20 - 25 tables. Solid seating area for guests during conventions but not quite as large as the dining/ bar area of the Hilton hotel nearby. I can image the area getting filled to capacity rather quickly when larger conventions take place in the area. This review on the bar service. I was in town for an animation convention and the hotel bar provided a special drink menu for guests that weekend. The drink was called "The Scallywag". It was essentially an Arnold Palmer with Captain Morgan Spiced Sum. The earthy taste of tea leaves balanced with the freshness and sweetness of lemonade combined with the spice of Captain Morgan rum put this drink over the top. Kudos to the head mixologist at the hotel to come up with such a great simple drink. Also the bar tenders executed this drink perfectly the entire weekend. The bartenders were quick to take orders and produce drinks at a steady pace. I didn't have to wait that long for drinks. It also helped there we people on the floor taking drink orders and running orders during the...
Read moreThe bar manager (or a man dressed in a suit who should be the bar manager) went above and beyond.
I elected to stay at an AirBnB across the street rather than a hotel attached to the convention center. Sure, you get a unique experience at an AirBnB, but you're not guaranteed to get high quality H2O. No water bottles, RO system, Brita, built-in water dispenser, etc. (Please note: I understand most people aren't opposed to drinking tap water; I'm extremely spoiled with a reverse osmosis water dispenser at home. It's one of my most cherished investments.)
After enjoying several libations and closing my tab, I asked the bar manager-esque man for two cups of water to carry home to my desert of an AirBnB. This wonderful man chuckled, told me I should have stayed at the Hyatt, and asked if I could manage carrying four cups. Here I am, a short walk later and several steps closer to proper hydration.
Sir, I will consider staying at a Hyatt next time. Thank you for your service.
Hyatt, give this...
Read moreThe waiters suck. Bad. Really bad. If you’re hungry, door dash something. These people need to work at the DMV. Updating to tell you about the jerk manager who goes out and smokes every ten minutes. I told him how slow it was. A half hour to get drinks for a table of five when there were three tables and four people at the bar. And by the time they got them, they forgot two out of the five. The smoking manger guy was more concerned with giving my female friends free breakfast vouchers than seeing other tables get ANYTHING. He was completely inappropriate. Completely. Mac and cheese is flavorless. They offered ZERO condiments. No salt and pepper. Nothing. I really hope none of that wait staff is there next time...
