HEARTBROKEN AND TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF!!! There should be a way for an individual to leave a negative star rating! My family has been with this company for over 50+ years. My father was so committed to this company. I tried to get my father to change companies when I was younger because in my opinion they were taking advantage of my parents. I buried my father after taking care of him (in-home hospice) in 2019. I still had to care for my sick mother as well while being under the doctor's care myself. I could've chosen another insurance company but I had my father in my head. I buried my mother this past August and still grieving over that because after burying my father, it was back at it with taking my mother back and forth from dialysis. I am sooooo disgusted with this company who pretends to be on your side that I had to add to a previous disappointment. After scrapping up enough money to pay my homeowners insurance while being on a fixed income. To make a long story short, I was told by the adjuster that my claim was denied per the claims manager because they couldn't find any physical damage to the house other than water running from under the house and into my neighbors yard. I am crying and typing at the same time so forgive me if I'm redundant. Currently when the water is on you can hear it inside the slab of the room where the leak was discovered by American Leak Detection. Clearly, my foundation of slab is apart of my house. There's a possibility that erosion has occurred under the slab which will cause damage to it and the house! FYI: This same issue happened years ago and they paid for it. I felt bullied after that claim was submitted and completed. They attempted to cancel my insurance by requesting cosmetic repairs on my house. I am sooo disgusted with how I'm being treated. I'm pleading with those individuals who like me, actually care for your parents. PLEASE DO YOUR HOMEWORK AND AVOID NATIONWIDE INSURANCE COMPANY! BEWARE OF THIS INSURANCE COMPANY! My family has been with this company for over 40 years. I lost my dad in 2019 and I was referred to different insurance companies, but remained loyal to Nationwide. I didn't want to believe the rumors about Nationwide drops you for any reason they can find after you file a claim. Keep in mind, within 40 years I can probably count on both hands how many times my parents filed a claim. I filed my first claim within the past 5 years and since closing out my claim this insurance company has been basically in my opinion threatening to drop me for any reason. I care for my mother so imagine the stress of losing your insurance on top of that. I received letters with deadlines to complete cosmetic repairs and the deadlines are never realistic. I'm on another deadline regarding another issue and stressed out again!!! Nationwide is NOT on YOUR side! I would definitely recommend you to look elsewhere for any type of insurance because the prices are ridiculous and the genuine help/compassion is scarce!
I decided to add to this review because I didn't want my previous review to be deleted. This insurance company increased my renewal over 1,000 dollars and the excuse was because of claims (keep in mind we've been with them over 40 years) since I've been with them I've only had 2 claims and one being the passing of my mother a few months ago and the other an unforeseen issue (under the house). I can't say too much because it's unbelievable. This is not an example of being on...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI would give a -1,000 if possible... buyer beware with this company! First incident... after new policy was in place less than a month, received a cancellation letter from Nationwide homeowners insurance stating they were cancelling my insurance due to facia board repairs needed. Funny thing is... when they came out and inspected, we were in the process of replacing those facia boards already, and the inspector made the notation on the report as such... we actually replaced ALL exterior trim. The following year, the tornado in August, 2023 that took 5 lives in Michigan, also pulled a 300+ year-old tree apart like stretching taffy... dropped the 55+ foot top section straight down 10 feet from the house, where it then feel over into the house. The roof suffered enough damage to replace the entire roof. After the claim was filed and before the repairs were barely started... Nationwide sent me... you guessed it, a cancellation letter stating I needed a new roof. Seriously? So, it wasn't enough I was dealing with all of the other issues... I now had to babysit Nationwide who couldn't figure out the satellite photo of damage and repairs was from the tornado claim???!!! ... it gets better... during all of this chaos and work disruption (self-employed) our auto-payment for auto insurance with them didn't clear, yet I immediately contacted them and paid it... but again... we get a cancellation of auto insurance notice. It took over a week of back and forths with them to get it cleared up (sorta) but they issued a new vehicle policy, made changes and the amount was... you guessed it... higher amount. They also wanted to bypass the "missed payment" and add it on top of the next 3 months auto-payments, even though I said no I was going to pay it that day (same day it didn't clear bank, as I just went to bank and made deposit)... that was another fiasco in and of itself. Finally, tired of the issues, I noted I wanted to cancel the motorcycle insurance (not the 2 vehicles) and they refused... stating it was the "only vehicle on the policy"... they put it on the homeowner policy not the auto policy... don't ask me why. At that point, I stated I wanted both vehicle policies changed to PL-PD only (prior was full coverage) and wanted it effective immediately... my policy went from full coverage with comprehensive at $190 to PL/PD at $249.... less was more. So, you guessed it... as my renewal was coming due, I informed them I would not be renewing... yet, they billed me anyway... and not what they had quoted the agent, but MORE on both accounts. Interestingly, neither my husband nor myself ever had a claim other than 1 windshield with ANY company, no accidents, tickets, etc. either in 50+ years. Conclusion... Nationwide is NOT on your side... but they ARE greedy bullies who think they can get away with anything they want. Horrible company...horrible. Run FAST! We are now insured with USAA who are amazing and have saved us over $1,800 from what Nationwide...

I can see from reading all of the other reviews that Nationwide has a very poor reputation and bad customer service. I conquer! DO NOT USE NATIONWIDE! I received notice that they would be taking over my policy from my current insurance company because my current insurance company was getting out of RV insurance. My current policy was due to expire at the end of July 2018. (Two months away at the time of the first notice) Nationwide stated that I would be receiving a policy and a billing in the mail within days of their original notice. After a few weeks without receiving the policy and billing I called to follow-up. The customer service representative said that she could not find any record of me having any insurance with them even with the policy number listed in my notification letter. She said that she would have someone call me back. NOPE! After a few more days I called again. I was told that I would need to be transferred over to their new policy dept. After being on the phone for 20 minutes answering questions about my RV and other personal information, I was informed that they do not insure RV's over 36 feet long. Mine is 41 feet long. The rep. said that he would call me back. The next day I received the call informing me that my motorhome was only 36 feet long because they do not count the front and back bumpers, only the actual living portion. Apparently I have 5 feet of motorhome that I don't use. Anyway, I was quoted a premium price over $200 dollars more than I am currently paying. I informed them that I would call them back. After calling a company that frequently advertises, I was given a quote within minutes that was $60 less than I was currently paying for the same coverage. I called the rep. at Nationwide back and cancelled the quote and my remaining (non-existent) policy. A week later I received a new policy booklet from Nationwide and a billing the following day.???? Again I called Nationwide. The automated system informed me that my policy was cancelled and that I could press #1 to receive a text message to explain the reason for the cancellation with no option to speak to a rep. in person. I played their game and pushed a few buttons to get a rep. on the phone who confirmed that the notes in their system verified that I cancelled my policy and that he did not know why I was sent a policy and billing. (I was repeatedly informed that their calls are recorded for quality assurance and training purposes? I don't think it is...
