Ok so, I saw this place online, it looked cool in the pictures. Things are not always what they seem. Staff: Friendly, the bartender was accommodating and recommended his favorites as one should especially since I was the only human sitting at the bar. The Front desk staff was cool although we were offered what looked to be lovely Macaroons, right as I was going to grab one, the plate was taken away by another staff member who said it was for another guest, no harm no foul there. We told them we were celebrating our anniversary and they delivered another plate of macaroons and a bottle of Pinot Noir to our room. That was a very nice gesture even though my wife doesn’t drink. More Pinot for me right? Lobby: It's accented with a cool LED screen that's about 12 feet long and 3 feet high opposite another wall with a couple of flat screen tv’s that display local weather and nearby things to do. Lobby Bar/Restaurant: The food was good, pricey but typical for a hotel and the staff was very friendly and made good cocktail suggestions. Room: Upon walking into the room we notice the decor, very stark, no pictures on the white walls, not much decor at all, very basic very sterile albeit there was a somewhat comfortable chaise placed in front of the window. It was mid day when we checked in and the room was hot and humid. The thermostat is “green” meaning if there's no movement detected in the room the system shuts down completely. This makes every return to an empty room a bit uncomfortable especially with warm weather outside. Also you cannot adjust it below 70 degrees. I like to sleep in a somewhat colder room, say 68 or 69 degrees which can make a big difference in the feel of the room. We were annoyed with the thermostat. The bathroom, clad with a sliding barn door, looked nice but from a design standpoint but from a design standpoint it was not practical at all. One could not comfortably stand in the shower/toilet area and open the shower door with the barn door shut. Very annoyed with this. As this was my anniversary weekend I bought a long a few beverages to place in the small fridge in the room. Opened the fridge it was as warm as the hallways of the hotel. Maintenance came and did something, which made a can soda take about 12 hours to get just below room temperature so not a big deal, go to the ice machine, more on that later…. The bathrooms was made for an extremely thin person, of which I am not. The sliding barn door seemed awkwardly placed in comparison to the shower door stall. Dint like this at all. The “pantry” areas in the warm humid hallways were completely empty and void of any thing that the name pantry would suggest. Along side of the pantry was an ice machine that at first I thought didn't work but later determined you had hold your ice bucket at a very specific acute angle to trigger the ice. Annoyed. I could go on but would rather not make this review into the next war and peace novel…. the bottom line is while its understood that this is a newer facility, things should still work as they should without building maintenance getting involved and without disappoint. I would not suggest this place to anyone that values their time in the hotel room. If you just need a place to lay your head for a few hours, go...
Read moreWaste of money! The hotel appearance really fooled us! The front desk and customer service was the worst we have had ever experienced. Communication via the hotel app was nonexistent. Every request was never honored. Multiple calls needed to be made to the front desk and those requests were never honored until three or four times later. We requested additional towels multiple times and never received them! We requested additional hangers multiple times and never received those. We requested our room to be cleaned one day as we were expecting important guests, and our request was never honored as we returned to a dirty room. I called down to the front and had to threaten speaking to a manager to get the room cleaned and finally, it was. It was also evident by dirty looks and unfriendliness at the front desk, that they were not happy with our requests or messages! The front desk attitude when we checked in was friendly and after many requests that were not honored and pestering we received dirty looks and snubbed faces. We stayed a total of four nights. On our last night we were awoken at 5 AM in the morning with something that sounded like explosions up above our head. We called down to the front desk and asked what was going on. They were not aware of anything. Because we were concerned, We left the room and went down to the front lobby and said we were going to call the police because of the loud noises. The person at the front desk (as there was no security) went up to see what was going on. We later found out it was someone in the workout room directly above our room in 1116 throwing their weights on the ground. There was never any follow up or apology from the person at the front desk. So the last night we got horrible sleep!
We are diamond members who have multiple stays at hotels. We have never had such a bad experience at this Canopy location . And it is a shame because it is a beautiful hotel. I would be happy to share all the messages back-and-forth on the hotel app as I screenshot all of them. Just a total waste of money and points that we lost During this stay. As valued diamond members, We are extremely disappointed and will be spreading the word! More professionalism is needed at this hotel! After leaving my review on the Hilton website, not one person attempted to contact and find out further information. Beginning to rethink the advantage of being a Hilton Diamond member. Considering switching...
Read moreI was able to get a room here at the last minute because a conference took all the hotel rooms of CMH downtown. Everything was sold out in Columbus and only the terrible Hilton properties were available (obviously).
Never stayed with this brand before, was looking forward to it.
PROS:
Nice decor, you can control the TV (and soon other things) with your phone and the Hilton app. However, you can't get a digital key before arriving at the hotel as the hotel is forcing everyone (on purpose) to get to the front desk before going up to the room.
What's nice is that they have Netflix and YouTube already on the TV. No other apps yet but that's really a good start.
They also have bikes with helmets for use. This is nice as well!
Nespresso machine in the room!
The breakfast options are FANTASTIC! Delicious food!
The dinner food was great as well. A little too much garlic for my taste.
THE CONS (please read as they are important):
You can not put the room temperature below 70F. This is done on purpose to stay green (and obviously piss off guests).
There isn't a lounge and the parking here is valet only at a very premium price ($30).
You can not plug your own streaming device on HDMI2/3. You'll need to disconnect the main HDMI1 from the hotel and use it there. Not even engineering was able to override that.
The bed had one side already lower than the other (hotel is 6 weeks old). The mattress is WAY too soft. The pillows are very soft (VERY) and I couldn't really sleep well. I have asked for firm pillows and they don't have any. I left the property with 0 nights of quality sleep and a severe back pain.
If you need an outlet near the bed, you MUST KEEP THE ENTRANCE LIGHTS ON! If you need a CPAP, for example, the entrance lights MUST STAY ON! This is horrible and all the rooms are wired this way. Big project flaw.
They have a smoke detector that blinks every 5 seconds. If you are not getting some sleep that thing annoys you. It is like you are in an airplane, it is pretty bright!
They have no vending machines and no market to buy anything. If you want your own soft drinks, buy them before arriving on the property.
Unfortunately, despite the positives, the negatives are big and I can't stay...
