Dos Hermanos was excellent in every way! Highly recommended. Details below with quick summary at the bottom. :)
Having never been to any Dos Hermanos location in the past, I wasn't sure what to expect. I made a reservation for 3 people a few days prior to our visit, which was planned for a Friday evening. We arrived at the restaurant about 15 minutes early, fully expecting to wait until our scheduled reservation time to be seated as this is normal practice, but the staff offered to seat us, despite being early and still waiting on the last member of our party to arrive. This was a pleasant and welcome surprise, as we had traveled quite a distance and we were, of course, very hungry. :)
Space: The restaurant, despite being relatively narrow, had ample seating with plenty of seats on the first floor with additional seating upstairs, which resembled lofts. We were seated on the first floor, though I expect being seated upstairs would be quite fun. The decor of this location is exciting: a plethora of bright colors, hanging banners, colorful and modern lighting, but tastefully done and with modern lines. The space itself was light and airy. I am often overwhelmed by the sometimes discombobulated decor present in many other restaurants, regardless of the cuisine, but Dos Hermanos' Easton location's decor was fun and pleasant.
Service: From the moment we walked in the door to the moment we left, the service at Dos Hermanos was excellent. As I mentioned, we had a reservation at this location but arrived about 15 minutes early. We were seated when we arrived despite this, which exceeded our expectations. When we were seated, we were immediately provided with water, then, shortly thereafter, our server, Alan, took our drink orders. While waiting the 5 minutes between taking our drink orders (margaritas on the rocks) and receiving the drinks, another server approached us and ensured that we had been waited on, which was very thoughtful. Our server, Alan, was kind and efficient. He also split our bill after we received it when we neglected to mention this beforehand. Thanks, Alan! I should also mention that our drinks arrived in less than 5 minutes, and our dinner arrived in 15 minutes--incredibly speedy for any restaurant, but not entirely unexpected considering Dos Hermanos began their journey as a taco truck. Either way, the speed of service was incredible and much appreciated.
Food: I cannot say enough great things about the quality of the food at Dos Hermanos Easton. As is tradition with Mexican restaurants, chips and salsa were provided, which were very tasty. Next, we ordered a large guacamole which was delightfully creamy and perfectly seasoned. For dinner, I ordered elote as well as the Mexican Street Tacos with carnitas. I had been wanting to try elote for a very long time, so I was quite excited that Dos Hermanos offered this. The elote was served cut off the cob and was visually pleasing. The taste is unlike anything I have had in my lifetime--it was SO good! The corn tasted fresh, creamy from the mayonnaise (though lightly dressed), and had a delightful tang from the chile-salt blend and what I presume to be cotija cheese. HIGHLY recommend the elote! The Mexican Street Tacos were also delicious. I am a "simple is best" kind of person, so I love a good street taco. The carnitas was well-seasoned, tender but with crisp edges, and the taco was filled with white onion and cilantro, as is customary for a street taco. The meat-to-topping ratio on the tacos was perfect--not too much, not too little.
TL;DR: Excellent service, incredibly fresh and delicious food, served quickly, in a fun and colorful space. Highly...
Read moreMy husband and I recently visited Dos Hermanos (in Easton) for our weekly date night, and let me tell you, it was hands down the best Mexican food I’ve had in a long, long time.
After living in Columbus for over 3 years (and searching high & low), I had come to the sad conclusion that there were no good authentic Mexican restaurants in thus city — that was, until I stepped foot into Dos Hermanos.
From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with hot chips and fresh, flavorful salsa that set the tone for the rest of our meal.
The menu features a wide range of authentic Mexican dishes at reasonable prices. My husband and I tried the queso blanco, street tacos, Birria tacos, and churros. Each dish was flavourful, hot, and super fresh. My personal favorite were the Birria tacos — every bite was packed with the right balance of spices and tenderness. I am very picky when it comes to restaurants, especially Mexican, and let me tell you; if you like flavor (not just salt…), this is the place for you!
The food wasn’t all that impressed us — the wait staff was equally fantastic. Our waitress, Megan, was an absolute superstar. She was attentive, friendly, and made our experience very enjoyable. The restaurant was clean, and well staffed— a true hidden gem.
After our first visit, we couldn’t resist going back again (only 2 weeks later), and I’m happy to report that the experience was just as perfect as before. No doubt about it, Dos Hermanos deserves a solid 5 out of 5 stars. My search for a fantastic Mexican restaurant in Columbus is officially over! If you also have been tirelessly searching for a truly good Mexican restaurant, this...
Read moreMy wife and I went here for lunch. The hostess greeted us right when we walked in and service was great. I ordered Los Tacos al Pastor and my wife got the shrimp tacos. We each got a drink and we got the queso with meat in it. Food was good.
I think where the experience goes wrong is the server has you pay at the table at the end of the meal. The server holds the card machine and stares at you while you tap your card and add the tip. The suggested tip amounts are 20% - 25% unless you hit other. This seems unfair.
Our meal of six tacos (No sides included), queso w/ sausage, and two soft-drinks came to $50.00. We are not high maintenance. The server brought water, took our order, brought it to the table, checked in once and refilled our drinks, and came back with the total. That is 15-18% service. $7.50 - 9.00 tip service. Not $10 - 12.50 tip service.
So under the watchful eyes of the server who is holding the machine the entire time, I have to find and hit other. And then type in the tip. This is an owner issue, not a server issue. Management, figure out the payment process and talk to your payment vendor to configure the tip screen to start at 15 or 18%.
I know the comments will be, "Well if you can't tip, don't go out to eat." "If you don't want to pay, then stay at home." I get it. But I feel like $58.00 for six tacos, queso, and two soft drinks is high. Was that really a $30.00 per person meal? I feel like to each their own. This is not a one dollar sign...
